You know the old saying, sheep hunting requires a young man's body and an old man's wallet. I'm wanting to go on all 4 of the north american sheep hunts, as well as a few other mountain hunts while I am still physically able. I have cash flow, but not enough to pay $70K+ at a time for a hunt...
Over the last 30 years, all the ski towns I am familiar with out West have been overrun by 2nd homes of the rich and liberal, and no longer hold the quaint charm they once did. Looking to put roots down and maybe buy some land near a place that hasnt been ruined yet. I used to think Whitefish...
To those lucky enough to get a grand slam of the North American Wild Sheep:
How old were you when you killed your first north american wild sheep?
How old were you when you completed your NAWS slam?
Any other details of each hunt you can share, or of your sheep hunting career would also be...
I have always shipped rifles via UPS to the buyer's FFL. I heard and saw something on another thread saying that UPS will no longer accept long gun shipments from private parties......I don't want any links to UPS' website. Just looking to see if anyone (non FFL) here has actual experience...
Have other assets that ensure long-term financial security, so I don't "need" this money necessarily to have a secure retirement, though it is representative of a 20 year professional career and is something I have been proud of accumulating.
Has anyone done this, and if so, what was your...
Got another family we like to travel with that wants to do a photo safari, but I am going to hunt if I go to Africa. Does anyone have any recommendations for a place that caters to both?
Who all owns land in a western state they don't live in, and can speak to the annual county taxes?
Specifically looking at MT, WY, and ID
I know in the southeast, you can get a significantly reduced tax rate by enrolling in renewable10 year conservation agreements (NOT to be confused with a...
At what point is having a light rifle a liability?
Is cutting weight on your rifle really the place to be shaving ounces. Yes, you carry your rifle more than you shoot it, but isnt hitting what you are aiming at when you finally do shoot more important than you comfort leading up to that moment?
Anyone else have trouble getting the cap off the elevation turret?
Have tried a few things with no luck....I really dont want to scratch it up with channel locks. Any ideas?
With the Transporter/Drop Camp moose hunts in Alaska, what is a fair expectation for a group as far as success assuming everyone can shoot and is in good shape? If 4 hunters go, is 2 people tagging out a fair expectation? What is realistic?
I realize that processing a moose halts hunting for...
I see people posting in the Classifieds with whole setups including handloaded ammunition. Can ammunition legally be shipped in the same box as the rifle to the FFL via UPS, etc. or does it need to be a separate shipment?
(Sorry to have to start a thread for a simple yes or no question, but...
If you went off social media, you would think everybody who goes on a sheep hunt these days is killing a Boone & Crockett ram.
How many folks out there have ever been on a guided sheep hunt, whether Dall, Stone, Rocky Mtn Bighorn, or Desert, and did not harvest the target species?
Please do...
Thinking of going to the Sheep Show in 2023. Has anyone been and have an opinion on whether or not its "worth it?" I'm not a rich guy....I wouldn't win any auctions so would be going more to catch up with outfitters in person, and maybe get involved in a raffle only available to people who are...
Surprised the official thread has not been created yet......dalls have been falling in the NWT for a couple of weeks now.
Anybody got a ram this year? Post em up
For a stone sheep hunt next year. I have a STS 65 spotter and tripod I WILL be taking. Given that, what size binos would you recommend? Normally 10x42 is the standard, but with the spotter, wondering if 8X will be sufficient.
