Heck of a first post. Definitely seems like a troll
99% of people can’t afford to buy acreage out west big enough to get landowner tags on, so I’m curious to see what responses you get on a forum centered around guys who backpack hunt public land.
Having said that, Wyoming has no state income...
Id pick up that Ridgeline 7mm-08 in the classifieds for $1500 and then put a NF 2-10x42 on it. Sight it in with 140 gr ballistic tips for your sheep hunt, but keep 160 gr accubonds in it until it’s time to shoot your sheep (if in Grizz country and you desire some extra peace of mind.)
Plane ticket is another $5K, $5k in gratuities, etc. I would guess it’s easily a $50K-$55k affair by the time you get home, and your sheep gets to your taxi in the US. Then add on taxidermy.
Stone hunts are $85-$135k
Dall hunts are $40-$50
Desert BH are $55-$70
Rocky BH are $80-$100 (and 25% success rates / Cali BH are $140-$150
So assuming you got it done in one try on all 4, you are looking at anywhere from $260k to $405k depending on who you go with. The higher cost hunts have...
There should not be any reason for someone else to set up your scope for you. It is this simple:
At the range, using a flat surface, stabilize your rifle using a bipod and rear bag.
Take the bolt out, point your rifle at a large target about 25 yards away. Look through your rifle bore and...
What he posted does not even make sense:
"when we shoot we start at 50 - nail a tight enough group and move out to 100 then finally 200.
Multiple trips - last time went GREAT, till the last two bullets, missed a parking space sign at 50 yards TWICE!"
His last two shots would have been at 200...
Folks who have been in these hunts. On a typical morning do you ride out with just your guide and another hunter (2x1) and go somewhere while another guide takes 2 hunters in a different direction, etc. Or does everyone ride together to the same general area and then just spread out a little bit...
There is no pricing on their website for stone sheep.....only additional trophy fees for moose, goat, etc.
I know the lower end stone sheep outfitters charged $85K for cancellation hunts that went off this year. And the higher end (prophet muskwa, etc) were around $125K. Again those were for...
Have you ever been on a 12+ day backpack hunt in the Northwest Territories of Canada? Pretty wild I would say
In Africa aren't you getting carted out by a vehicle every morning, and then back in a permanent tent getting hot meals made by a cook every night?
How much does a fully ramped up Taxidermist make, ballpark? I'm not talking bout the owner of Monarch or Dewey Wildlife Studio. I'm talking about a guy who starts his own company and is a 1 man show
Those 2 sheep were going to get killed this year either way. If 2 DIYers had been awarded the tags through state draws, the states of NM and CO would have gotten what, 3K each? Instead, an auction winner (who happened to be the same person) paid $600K to Colorado and $600K to New Mexico. Which...
