Guys, it doesn't change "the torque" the question to ask is if it changes the torque tension relationship.
Tension is what keeps hard joints together, torque is an imperfect proxy for tension.
In a previous life I was the lead engineer for bolted joints at an OEM manufacturing company, we did...
I suspect it might not be exactly where you guys have been looking.
Been doing more muzzy hunting in recent years, taken 7 animals in the range of 20 yards (1600ish FPS impact velocity) to 125 yards (1200ish FPS impact velocity) using an interesting bullet the federal bor lock. It’s copper...
Seems like a real lack of appreciation for my people up in this thread.🤣
We might be a bit quirky, but don’t forget, everything good in your life comes from us; your phone, car, the computer you are currently viewing this on, hell even the alpha glass we all cherish.
You don’t get all these...
Haha, it's not my fault. I am an engineer, so all my brain wants to do is model the world with math.
I don't know if you are right, but that's a fair answer. But you bring up a good point, and it's something I sort of snuck in there by not mentioning cal and just going with KE in my last...
Wow, some people sure are taking a very reasonable question by the OP (that’s phrased quite elegantly) to some very strange places.
Bullets apply kinetic energy (if looking at the whole event) or force (if looking instantaneously via position) or power (if looking respect to time) to tissue...
I just ordered one despite the fact that not offering a butthook cover is a big mistake.
I am half expecting them to come out with a V2 that has the cover in 6 months or so 🥲
I am having a stainless Tikka action, bolt, and aftermarket barrel PVD'ed right now. Fingers crossed for good results!
That's another option other than Nitriding.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but looking though many of the photos in this thread and it seems to me that a 223 with a 77 TMK is a bit more "gun" than I would like for big game hunting. Not that I don't like my critters DRT, but the meat damage is far more than most of my kills with more...
I think a couple points that don't get delineated enough by people.
-Correct, you don't need that much magnification to shoot animals out to pretty far hunting distances
-Some people like a bit more magnification than others overall
-But like you said, there is an advantage when punching paper...
Last year I had a scope fail on me mid hunting season, so I went to a handful of gun shops to look at every 3-15x and 4-16x scope I could find. Most had awful eye boxes at full magnification, including some not so cheap ones like Leopold VX5 3-15x. I can’t remember everyone I looked though, but...
There are 4-20x and 3-18x scopes that exist that have great eye boxes at 14ish to 16x. If they just put a travel limiter on the mag ring I think many hunters would be quite happy.
I think one of the issues is that terrible eye boxes are workable at the range, it's actually in the field...
I have talked to a number of PRS guys and this is their reason for getting a 5-25ishx scope, so the eyebox is not hot garbage in the lower mag ranges where they actually use it.
So few scopes have good eyeboxes at max mag, it's infuriating.
My favorite scope of all time was my Nikon Monarch 5 3-15x.
It would fit OP's requests other than being SFP.
If I could buy a closet full of them, I would be a happy camper for the rest of my life. Sure it could have been lighter (18oz IIRC), had nicer glass than needed, but I loved...
I decided one of my rifles needs one of these scopes.
Who has the best deal on a Trijicon 10 mile HX 3-18x44 (part number TMHX1844-C-3000001) these days? It doesn’t look like Cameraland NY sells them.
