Chronograph. Go cheap or invest heavy?

Magnetospeed sporter does what I need it to do, but I don't agonize over statistical significance. Just a place to start for dope, troubleshooting, etc. YMMV.

    10x SWFA for hunting?

Got a 12x that I’ve used from 20 yards to 200. You’ll be fine. I have an idea about an offset RMR for the real close shots. Just haven’t done that yet.

First and Last Rifle - New Hunter

There’s an only vanguard 270 win in my stable. Like it a lot for killing stuff. Prefer a 308, but I’m hard headed.

What Scope Rings are you all using

I’m still a fan of badger ordnance. They come in alloy I think, but have only used steel.

Mounting a rifle on a mystery ranch pintler

I have a slick sling set up on my pintler for this year too. Has worked great on my training walks so far

What scope for a Christensen Ridgeline Scout in 300 BO

I want to grab one for my shorty 308 after elk season is over and see how I like it over my 12x swfa for a 0-400 yard optic.

    15 degree sleeping bag enough?

For my 0.02, I went out first rifle last year. Base camped at 11.5k ft. 15f rated mountain hardwear bag wasn’t enough, but I suspect temps were close or below 15 at night. Hot water nalgene helped, and I’m packing a puffy vest to wear this year. I was cold, but not enough to quit or go to the...

    Build vs Buy Custom Rifle

For a forever rifle I'd build on an origin or similar custom action that has prefits available, unless you have a 700 that has sentimental value. But nothing wrong with a seekins from what I've heard.

Shot bull. Having a hard time finding him.

I don't have any good advice, but can commiserate on losing an animal. My first bow shot at a whitetail was a lost cause, shot too high into the backstrap and never saw her again. It's a terrible feeling and tough to shake. Good news is, if this type of thing bothers you, you're a good person...

    16" suppressed elk gun

Thats a slick rifle and cool scope with the old m1 turret. Reticle? Caliber?

    Yeti vs. Hydroflask

I buy hydrapeak from TJ Max, but yeti stuff is a bit beefier feeling and holds ice better.

    16" suppressed elk gun

I'm watching this close. Have a 24" 270 win that stomps. Shoots 136 federal TA at like 3075 fps. Put a cow down with it last year. It's the logical choice, but is wearing a 2-10x42 basic zeiss hunting scope. The other option is a 16" 308 with a rokslide darling 12x42 swfa. Have shot way more...

Equipment suggestions, first back country hunt.

I used a black diamond cosmo to do a lot of hiking at night last year. Lightweight, cheap, and battery life is good for 3x AAA. I keep a small 1x AAA light in my pocket for backup 24/7 anyway. so I just standardize on that battery size. Liked having the inreach to keep in contact with the...

    Thoughts on Zamberlan boots

To be fair, after a week of walking, my left big toe will be a little numb for a long time. Not sure if that would happen with another brand, but there it is. I thought I had mine broken in before the first season, but 20 miles in proved otherwise. Last year, I just kt taped up before heading...

    Thoughts on Zamberlan boots

I have a pair of that model with the boa lace. Holding up well after two seasons. If they work for your feet, can recommend.

Talk me out of 300 WSM

I have always wanted a wsm, but in 2023, the prc cartridges seem to be far better supported.

Do you regret getting your suppressor?

I’m certain that I have hearing damage from shooting a braked rifle in prs comps for a few years. Used the good orange foamies and know how to fit them. It’s just too loud, and got me over about 5k rounds. Muffs over plugs seems to be a requirement for high volume braked shooting. So I think...
