28 Gauge Super Black Eagle 3 ongoing review thread

I have one of these (26” B.E.S.T) and have been using it for everything since the summer. So far I’ve shot a few cases of sporting clays, a limit of doves (Winchester xpert steel 6’s) and a few limits of ducks with Hevi XII 6’s. So far I’ve been quite happy by how little it has changed my...

    Wyoming draw

They can draw tags, it’s just those tags require boot leather and navigation app to hunt pronghorn.

    Wyoming draw

From what I’ve seen Pronghorn is viewed by a lot of residents as a second class big game animal and they don’t usually get a fraction of attention deer or elk tags do. I’m not sure there would be much gain to be had there.

Is the leupold cds dial worth it?

I feel like the value of CDS is seriously reduced with on board ballistics included on most rangefinders today. I had a custom turret made 5 years ago and it was fine but frustrating to change ammo and be out $80. It was also a few clicks off at sea level versus 8,000 feet where I was hunting at...

    Checking zero at camp?

I shoot while hunting to practice with real field conditions and shooting gear with the real wind I’m dealing with on a current day. It is NOT specifically to validate my zero but to develop the whole system including the shooter and any gear used. Zero validation is a side effect because I put...

    Suppressor wait times

Purchased online Silencer Shop 11/22 with single shot trust. At the Dealer 12/6 Ready to Certify 12/9- this took calling silencer shop to find out it was already at the dealer Certified 12/16 Approved 12/18 ATF times are moving quick but silencer shops inefficiencies and software are starting...

    POS Leuplold…

That’s a pretty common test procedure for consumer goods to test items on a vibration table to simulate shipping in the back of a truck in addition to vertical, offset and incline impact testing, freezing and heating and compression in both horizontal and vertical axis’s. We had all of those...

    Wyoming draw

I think everyone has had to recalibrate their pronghorn expectations since 2019 or so after a few really bad winters and overall uptick in interest to hunt pronghorn. I’ve hunted everything from land navigation puzzle units to the red desert and the reality today is if I want to hunt more than...

    POS Leuplold…

I’m not sure how someone is honestly analytical if they have only owned 1 brand of scopes for decades at a time. Sure they can say it’s adequate for their needs but it’s hardly a competitive benchmark of what else is out there.

    Whitetail to Elk

Eastern hunting doesn’t really have a lot to do with elk hunting. Full Stop. It doesn’t matter if it’s deer or turkey that some eastern hunter specializes in it doesn’t really translate in to elk success especially in early stages. The best thing an experienced hunter can do is to swallow...

Fully enclosed only for hunting red dot?

At this point there are enough enclosed micro red dot sights on the market that you should buy any new enclosed option for woods use. Aimpoint Acro, Trijicon RCR, Holosun 509 and EPS series are all solid.

How often do you replace your water filter?

Every year for water filters. I’ve just been burned too many times trying to get 2-3 seasons out of a sawyer squeeze or similar. No amount of backflushing or maintenance seems to changes their behavior.

    Yeti Loadout GoBox Review

I thought these go boxes were excessive until I used a 30 to help me stay organized while being very mobile day hunting from my vehicle for a week straight. It just really streamlined the ziplock bags of gear in Rubbermaid totes system I had run for a decade and kept the yard sale together.

    Sitka Waders

I really like mine. The new style boots are tight in the ankles coming off but they don’t pull out in mud. They aren’t super insulated by themselves but with the gradient cold weather bib they are super warm.

New scope for NRL hunter and general hunting use

For what it’s worth NX8 demos/blems typically go for $1600-$1650 so that’s a possibility right at the top end of your budget. That said I have an NX8 and a RS1.2 and the Maven does most things as well except for the integrated throw lever and the NX8 illumination is a bit better. The zoom...

    The New Leupold Mark 4HD?

In the industry is less helpful of an argument than if you were to say you are a Quality Engineer at a pencil company or a statistician at an insurance company. Consumer industry insiders are just chasing the current best pro deal on equipment regardless of who sells it. They buy...

Are Vortex Strike Eagles any good?

They are the official scope of your coworker that bought a Ruger Precision Rifle, goes to the DNR range 2x per year to punch paper at 200 yards and is “really into long range.”

If I have missed this Point me to the way.. Maven vs Nightforce

I own an RS1.2 Mil and a SHV F1 Moar. The eyebox on the Maven is way more forgiving than the SHV. Both are missing an integrated throw lever. The illumination function is nearly identical. The glass is good enough you are splitting hairs to find a meaningful difference. The Nightforce can...
