I posted pretty early on this thread. I finally got my 6mm Creedmoor setup. It weighs about 8-8.5#. Had the kids shoot at 100yds and 400yds. Still think it’s to much gun for the 10y/o and for sure the 8 y/o. They shot well but it was crazy to see how much the recoil still moved them. My 15 y/o...
Went out and tried this today. Savage model 10 with a 17” x-caliber 6mm Creedmoor that I just put on last week. Shooting Hornady 108 eldm. Started cold with no warm ups. Shot 13/20. Lots of room for improvement but pleasantly surprised for first time doing the drill. 20 seconds goes way faster...
Another data point. Got my x-caliber barrel last week. 17” 1:7.5” twist.
Sighted in at 100yds. Should have kept it a 9 shot group😀
I don’t have a chrono so I took it as far as I could which was 730yds to verify velocity. I should be around 2775fps.
Thought it was faster but was pretty...

Selling a 20" sporter 7mm-08 barrel. Small shank. Used but in good condition. Just swapping out to try something new and lighter recoil for the kids. Barrel nut and recoil lug not included. $90 tyd
I was just looking at x-caliber barrels and saw that they have an option for no gas port on their ar barrels. Have no idea how heavy their spaghetti or lightweight barrels are, but could be another option for those building these ar’s. 👍
The recent threads have changed my mind. I’m still mid transition though. I’ve killed a couple blacktails and a bear with 6.5 Grendel 123 eldm and was impressed with the damage. The 108eldm is only 15gr lighter and will be traveling faster and a better bc. I am putting a 6mm creedmoor barrel on...
It’s not super nice, but a savage axis in 6mm arc would fit that bill. 108 eldm and your good to go. My friend has his son shooting an Axis and it has worked well for their uses.
Quick question. If the gun is going to be in the safe for long periods of time between use would you clean it? I’m thinking months to a year. I’m curious about long term corrosion when it isn’t being used regularly.
A gas gun is pretty fun to mess around with and shoot. The ar I showed was the first one I put together. Really wasn’t that hard especially if you like to tinker with things.
If I did that one over I would have used the arc barrel though. 15gr less bullet for better ballistics, lighter bullet...
