Get in the best shape you can and spend as much time checking different areas in the unit you can. If you haven't ever hunted sheep you need to train your eyes to find them and the best way is looking for them. Talk to the biologists about where to check. Try not to get too anxious about it all...
I would want the protection of boots for sidehilling or cobble. I run into enough cobble even on trails, and have turned my ankle enough, there is no way I would pack a heavy load without something sturdy over the ankle.
Alpha 8x32s are very nice indeed. I carry 6, 7, or 8x unless the trip will require a lot of long range glassing, then it's 10x or higher. It's just nicer to have a big field of view that isn't bouncing around as much. I find that 10x works hand held, but requires more bracing. 8 or 8.5x alphas...

I leave my gun loaded w/ powder and conical all season unless I go through a real wet spell and get worried enough about it. If it doesn't get used on game, I always shoot it at a...

Peaks&Creeks, thanks, good to hear it scans well for you. What sort of tripod do you like with the Kowa? I like that it wouldn't need a beefy tripod.
6mm Rem, a...
I'm curious about people's preferred backpack hunting spotters given what's currently on the market when the spotter is used some for glassing. That is, not just checking something already found with binos. Anything high end out there now would be a big step up, I've got really old optics and...
