Need some lightweight shooting rest setups for upcoming sheep hunt

Not a sheep hunter, but I picked up some Wiser Precision quick stix last year and I’ve been impressed. I’ve yet to need them to take an animal, but have shot off of them and used them as a rest for my binos for looking long at something. They aren’t noticeable to me on the trekking poles and...

    Buy or rent Satellite communication??

I got my inreach mini initially for backpack trips but since it’s so small I find myself taking it along on even day hunts just in case. I also take it kayak fishing in the ocean, four wheeling etc. there’s plenty of dead spots even on the road especially up the coast that’d suck to not be able...

    Anyone rockin' a nut ruck?

So this is a Fanny pack and not some sort of jock strap like I gathered from the title… I don’t take my pack off even for a quick look over a hill or whatever because one thing sometimes leads to another etc… I use a small pouch on my pack belt to keep extra stuff like snacks that I like handy...

    Bino harness straps only

The badlands basic harness is a good one if you’re not wearing a backpack. It has same backpack style straps as their other harnesses but without the pouch. Doesn’t bounce around like the all elastic harnesses when you’re walking around.

    Any fish pics

Nothing wrong with relaxing and fishing, but if you want to add some intensity to your fishing you should hop in a kayak and paddle or peddle (Hobie guy here) a couple miles into the ocean for lingcod and halibut and see a ripped off seal’s head floating by. Wondering if the big guy in the grey...

    FORLOH pack launched today!

I immediately thought the same thing, that picture looks un doable with real weight. It does look like a nice pack and I like the built in pouch on the belt since I always add one anyway, but I’m also curious if it’s as shiny as the pictures make it look? Looks like some interesting features and...

Kayak Photography - Sit on top or Sit in ??

Sit on tops are typically more stable and have more options to easily access gear. Dry bags or pelican type cases would be the way to insure nothing gets wet. 10’ would be on the small side imo, but if you’re smaller and don’t require much weight capacity you could get away with it. I haul...

    Paleoish Backcountry Diet

wild Zora has some pretty good paleo dehydrated meals. I also like caveman foods bars in addition to the usual nuts dried fruit and jerky. I haven’t needed to, but if you’re really needing the extra calories you could always add some olive oil to the meals. I also like the packets of cashew and...

Ideas on tiring out bird dogs when you can’t hunt them

With my Pudelpointer I found that I couldn’t wear her out enough physically to make a difference with her energy since she recovered so quickly even on bike rides. She just got stronger. I found that she would only really wear out if she was mentally worked. Hiking worked better than running...

    Water storage when Truck Camping

I use an aquatainer jug but the reviews were correct and the spigot does leak. I unthreaded the leaking spigot and replaced it with a plastic garden hose spigot from the hardware store, same threads and I think it was about $5. I do like the size and shape of the container since it doesn’t tip...

    Leatherman favorites

I’ve had several leatherman tools over the years starting with the original pst that I used for a long time and eventually lost. I have liked them all and still have a few different ones including a charge ti that is neat with the extra bit set, but I found an original pat that was in perfect...

Alpha glass “ownership” experience - and a rehash of “is it worth it…”

I bought an older pair of els used a couple years ago that were in great condition for $1k and couldn’t be happier. I didn’t have the budget for new ones though I had always lusted after a pair when looking through a couple of my friends Swaros. We’ve swapped glasses around comparing the new and...

    Texas school shooting

I actually do think that we have a worse mental health problem here than a lot of countries. Cultures are very different around the world and our culture has definitely deteriorated. There’s a ton of little things that have changed so incrementally that all of the sudden todays America is almost...

    Texas school shooting

You don’t need a license or registration to drive a Prius, the car will drive without either of those. Hell you don’t even need to own the car to operate it. You could steal a car, drive a 100mph without a license (maybe not in a Prius) into a crowd. How does the license and registration thing...

    300 win mag loads

I’ve been working on a 180g hammer hunter load that’s showing good potential. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to shoot the last batch I loaded. They seem to always have them in stock at least when I ordered the last box a couple weeks ago and a couple months before that. There forum is very helpful...

    Poop shovels

Funny, I was just going to say that it’s amazing that the topic of poop shovels can go this far and then a topic I’m actually interested in will sometimes die a quick and quiet death when it looked like it had some legs. After this made it past the first page I realized that the skies the limit...

Best biography on the Teddy Roosevelt?

I just started reading Theodore Roosevelt in the Badlands: A Young Politician's Quest for Recovery in the American West. Pretty good so far.
