    Is it worth calling now?

No luck with the calling but I have no idea if there was a bear even around. He definitely hasn't been back to where I jumped him from as I've checked back a few times before the bear season ended. New York just allowed a special late holiday deer season in the southern zone for archery and...

    Is it worth calling now?

I jumped a bear yesterday that seems to have been starting a nest for the winter but cameras and tracks show they're still somewhat active. I got a shot off but missed completely. Has anyone ever missed one near a bed and had him return? The area has been a good bear producer, we have taken 4...

    NY Bear... Catskills Area

Made the trip out to the catskills park from western new york for the early bear season and wow was that eye opening. Those are definitely mountains compared to the hills back home. I had areas picked out to scout and figured I would hit some ridges and cover some ground to locate bear sign but...

    Draw weight for whitetails

Like lost said, there are a lot of factors. Aside from the ability of the equipment is your personal ability. When I first switched from modern to traditional archery I realized how poor my form was and how heavy 45 lbs really was. It took me a while to be able to comfortably shoot at that...

    Favorite bipod shooting sticks?

Bogpod makes a pretty good product for a decent price. I've used the tripods and bipod but personally prefer the bipod for how I hunt. A lot of my friends will only use a tripod so like most things it's going to come down to your personal preference for favorite. I've tried several of the brands...

    NY Bear... Catskills Area

A lot of the bears we see are in super thick, brushy areas with lots of tree tops or new growth. They are good spots to find bears in general but you probably won't find any particular pattern for recurring use.

    SUPER OLD Three-Legged Idaho Bear

Congratulations to your buddy. That's an awesome bear, between the color and missing leg that will make a one of a kind mount or rug.

    SAVAGE ML

I got lucky a few years ago and picked up a used, synthetic ml-ii for $200. I don't think it had even been fired at the time. It's by far the easiest muzzleloader that I've ever worked with. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone who had one that didn't like it.

Tell me about your first trad kill

I was extremely lucky my first year switching to trad. With some help from a friend who has been shooting traditional for years I was able to restring and tune an old recurve that my dad had laying around for years. A couple weeks into archery season in my home state of New York a bear wandered...

Who all Calls in Spring Bears

It's always possible I've called one in without seeing it, not too much open terrain where I hunt. I just keep planning on experimenting until I find something that works. Your book has been a pretty good jumping off point so far.

Who all Calls in Spring Bears

I'm also curious to see what sounds other people have had success with. I've gotten quite a few recommendations over the years but most of those people have never shot a bear let alone called any in so I'm reluctant to take their advice. I just started calling for bears last year and haven't had...
