I have both and really like the 7-08 but honestly I'm building a new 6CM for a 0-600 deer rifle. The 6CM is just so much more pleasant to shoot though I'll likely still carry the 7-08 on some hunts just because I like that rifle so much.
I'm not making it this year. Decided to go to the Western Hunt Expo instead.
Go buy some raffle tickets from the ID WSF booth. They have some cool stuff I've heard. Buddies are running it most of the show.
Good luck with the drawings!
Weight is a huge concern for some people and not a factor for others it seems.
I have buddies who won't carry anything more than a standard weight (~8.5 pounds) anywhere.
These guys freak out when I hand them my 15lb 6.5 PRC but they also freak out when I hand them a 5.5lb 308.
Just last night I...
I've killed quite a few elk with a 7WSM and 160 Accubond from 34 to 537 yards.
The bullet speed from that thing should be nearly identical to your 280.
It works well enough I'm not planning on using anything else and bullet performance is exactly what I want to see at all distances. Large wound...
Well after I deleted the app and reinstalled it everything seems to be working for me now. the only bug mine had was that it wouldnt upload a profile to my binos and that is working now.
The version 3.1 has quite a few new features that are covered in the video posted above.
I've been messing with he new version fore a couple of weeks and had a bunch of issues at first. It was bad enough I sent in a "help" ticket and got a response the next day. Funny thing was that by the time I could get out again to mess with the app/binos a few days later almost all the bugs...
I have a thing for Coues you could say. I've hunted them every chance I've had for 25 years but that doesn't mean I'm an expert.
Learn to glass in a slow and methodic way to be sure you have seen everything on a hillside before moving. And then I will cover that hillside again just because...
I've got a Solus in 6CM with about 150 rounds through it. It runs well and the light, short throw of the bolt makes it fast and smooth to use. Bolt slides well but I haven't had it in any dirt, rain or ice yet. I like it enough there is a second action sitting on my desk at the moment waiting on...
Ok, yep I know how the timing can fluctuate on natural processes but thanks for the info. We are hoping for the second week in October if we can get in somewhere.
Thanks for the feedback.
Is it worth trying to push for the later portion of the rut to hopefully get better weather? It seems like I've read several accounts of warm weather slowing rut activity.
I hopped on to post almost the exact same question.
A group of 3 of us are wanting to book for 2025 so I'm looking for all info I can find on outfitters in Alberta. Mind if we use your thread to gather info both of us can benefit from?
Thanks! It has helped me harvest a lot more animals than I can think of (or have pictures of apparently) from 10 yards to over 400 and is plenty capable way past that.
You know... I had to think about it a bit but no elk have been taken with that rifle. I'ts been on plenty of elk hunts but I've...
I'll play!
I built a 7-08 about 15 years ago and have really enjoyed shooting it. It's made a bunch of miles in several states and has quite a few critters under its belt.
162 AMAX then 162 ELDM at about 2740 fps.
Here are a few pics but I can't find a bunch of the rest right now.

I have shot 2 different 7WSM's for like 15 years and taken quite a few animals with them. It is has been my favorite hunting round for that entire time. That said if I were to build one today it would definitely be in 7SAUM simply due to brass availability. They are really close in performance...
I almost didn't get a shot at a nice blacktail on Kodiak due to a rusted up firing pin and bolt internals on my custom Model 7. Found a deer and got all set up then pulled the trigger and nothing happened. Like nothing. No noise or movement in the rifle. I laid there frantically trying to make...
