I've loaded the 168 TTSX over both Hunter and H4350 for friends rifles in 300 WSM. I last worked up a load of R16 under Hammer 154 HHT for my SILs 300WSM.
Well, gave the 300 WSM to my SIL, bought another Wby 338/06 barrel to ream out to the 338 RPM. After being set back for the Ackley ream, it didn't leave enough shank to set back more. I will shoot either the 175 HH or the factory 185 TTSX, whichever shoots the best. Got my Kimber 84L Classic...
I have a good friend who uses a 240 Wby and the 100gr Hornady BTSP on bull elk. I have another that used the 6mm Remington/100gr factory Corlokts. I ran into two brothers who used the early Barnes 100gr X bullet in their 243s/ Another friend uses his 25-06/100-120 and "most" of the 270 users...
It's all in good fun. If new to hunting elk, the 30-06/180gr bullet is your huckleberry. If you just have to have a magnum, the 7mm Rem Mag and 160-175gr bullets is the easiest one to shoot well. 3x9scope.
I also used the CCI BR2 primer. I found it tightened up a little vertical stringing I was having. I also for got to add that I had one 30-06 that I could use 60gr R22 under the 200 NP.
I worked these out almost 40yrs ago:
IMR 4350 9 1/2 primer Winchester cases
Hornady SP or Sierra Pro Hunter 150gr.....59gr
Any 165gr.....58gr
Sierra Pro Hunter..180gr.....57gr
Sierra SBT 200gr.....54gr
IMR 4064 any case
Hornady 150gr.....52gr
May have to try H4350 if rifle likes it, but...
You bet! I forgot to say that 200X ( which I feel the TTSX are even better) killed and penetrated as well as that old 250X did! I was zeroed only +2" at 100 with the 200X, and I held on the backline of a 347yds Black Wildebeasts, plop. I shot that zebra from prone, laying over the bank of a...
I used a 35 Whelan AI for a bit over 20yrs. My first load was the original Barnes 250x over 53,5gr of 2015br BR2 primer, remington case. I shot a wad of game with it in '96 first trip to South Africa. Only recovered 2 bullets, both lengthwise shots on a zebra and kudu. Another trip, I used 58gr...
You should be fine with the laminated stock, maybe use some Tung oil anyway. You can either send off the barreled action to be Cerakoted or Birdsong Black T coating, or use a rust preventive oil of some kind. I take the barreled action out of the stock, and wipe it down good with alcohol or a...
I like the plain Bergara B-14 Hunter ( for back country the Wilderness is cerakoted) It comes Pillar Bedded but I have them "skim bedded", then put a Trigger Tech Special in. I like the 2.5x8, at most 3.5x10. Good to go! Ramshot Magnum under a Barnes 175 LRX and you are set. Not the lightest...
