I loaded a few .243/106tap/ 7828ssc to check for pressure. New Tikka take off barrel cut to 17" with Raptor8, new Lapua lrp brass. My first 2 shots at my lowest charge of 45grains clearly showed ejector marks. How much should a person drop charge weight? I dropped 2 grains shot two over a chrono...
I use a UM level on the dovetail of my Tikkas and then look through the scope at a plumb bob or the horizontal (level) lines of my garage door. Once everything is level/plumb and tight I install a level on my scope tube and remove the rail level.
I'm considering going with max volume 5" and then being able to direct thread for hunting but that goes against my goal of getting away from swapping stuff around.
Barrels will be Tikka light or similar. Mostly just debating what length to get. I'm a fan of short, light, minimal recoil and noise. I know there are trade offs. I'll probably go with a 3" and just leave it on whatever gun I'm going to elk hunt with, but interested in thoughts of experienced...
Bump.
I just got my tax stamp approval email for my Raptor 8. It comes with a 3" bull barrel reflex mount. I'm planning on swapping it to a standard mount for increased volume. Should I stick with a 3" mount, or? I'm planning swapping it between a 6/7prc and some other 6mms.

I just bought a Mystery Ranch Popup 30. Seems comfortable and about the size I'm looking for. If you do haul something in the load shelf it looks like you'll be smooshing everything in the pack when you cinch the straps. Also, made in Vietnam.
