    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I didn't weigh mine. I threw it on my powder scale but it was too heavy for the scale so I just installed it. I tapped my gas port and put a setscrew in it then put an undersized stainless sleeve over it using a thermalfit install. I put a post on it in this thread somewhere. I'm quite happy...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

One thing I thought I'd note - there's not much room for a wrench to tighten the castle nut, especially with a wide nut like mine even without a plate. I had to basically tighten it like a pin spanner.

Hi. Thank you. I appreciate that from the guy who got me addicted to this! Yep, it's the 9.5". I used the B5 CAR stock for a bit and ended up liking that at 9.5" so I was comfortable ordering it at that length. I got a good deal with a sale and a coupon code, but I was a little annoyed it...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I was going to order an IMI folding stock, but it would have been less than 26" folded and my state doesn't explicitly say if they'd measure with the stock extended or folded, so I splurged on a smoke composites stock to avoid that potential headache. Down to 4lbs 0oz with mag, optic, sling. I...

And you can carry ten 77 grain TMKs like it's nothing!

How far are you guys typically shooting at animals with these guns to want magnified optics? I am only shooting 115 yards max, but typically 15-50 yards.

Weatherby is circling the toilet bowl

Although I don't totally agree with the philosophy, I can't imagine big magnums not selling in America. There's always going to be people looking to buy the biggest cartridge to impress their friends.

I know you're joking, but I could have used a different adjective. Your red rider screams "built to be light" rather than aesthetics, which isn't something you see online, let alone with the people I hunt with. It got me excited to have something like it myself!

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I think I'm done messing with mine. I changed the red dot mount and got rid of the standard buffer plate and castle nut and just used an aluminum buffer nut. Saved around 2 oz between those two changes. Final scale says 4 lbs 4 oz with optic, sling, and magazine. 3 lbs 15 oz without the mag...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I think the ugly is what attracted me to these builds. They put off that backyard mechanic/end of the world vibe. Love it.

Yeah I thought the same thing, that the nut should do enough for hunting, but I had fun trying to have a backup with the stuff laying around the house. This is a fun game.

So I had a better idea for the buffer retainer plate... I had an ar308 buffer tube that has the extended threaded end with a slot cut in it. I use that with the buffer retainer pin/spring rather than the end plate to keep the tube from rotating. I ordered an aluminum castle nut also. This should...

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

I tapped mine 4-40 but it was a tedious job. Even with a really good tap it felt like it was on the verge of snapping a lot. I was only turning like 10* in then backing it out. Took a while but worth it.

I'm using an M4E1 lower so it's tapped for a setscrew anyway. The plate doesn't do anything other than keep the buffer tube from rotating.

    Ultralight Ultralight Rifles

Anyone get rid of the castle nut and end plate by putting a set screw through the circular recess in the lower and up into the buffer tube slot?... And maybe some loctite on the buffer tube threads?

How do we get a heavy (120+ grain) 6mm bullet made?

This is something I was just thinking about today. A 120 eldm in a 6PRC would probably be something I'd do a full custom around.

You guys filing down the bolt hold open on the mag or just dealing with it?

Just wondering if there's any visible gas flow (debris, etc.). Maybe do one with a piece of paper or something over it? Just curious about the force.

If you remember, I'd be interested to see a video of shooting it with the port open.
