I personally liked the Lowa Zephyr mids as well as the asolo fugitives, but I'm sure your choice would depend on where you're going/what you'll be doing in them. I own some hanwags and find them to be narrow throughout from heel to toe.
With the binos in the pack, you're limited for space in the front pocket. I've got 10x42 vipers in mine and I was able to put a diapham call and chapstick in the front pocket. I've got a havalon in one of the side pockets but it sticks halfway out of the pocket.
