If you're going to do a short barreled 6mm a 6MAX is a good option. But, that is really made to excel in an AR. That speed does seem tremendously slow for even a 16" 243. I'd have to say his numbers are off.
You'll be able to do most anything with those two rifles. I have a 20" CTR in 6.5 in a KRG Bravo chassis. Shoots so dang well. It's ridiculous how accurate it is for factory rifle. Shoots as well as my customs if I'm being honest.
I set up rifles based on the range I anticipate using them. Then, I find a bullet that will excel inside that range and hit inside of its velocity window for maximum performance. For my 223 its a 77TMK. Out of a 16.5" rifle it gives me a 400 meter range. My 280 AI is a 155AH at 3100fps for 500...
I'd do a 7SS (Sherman Short) before either of those. He sells his own brass and its always in stock. Best short action 7mm option out there. If I'd have known about it before I got a 280AI I'd have gone that route for sure. But, if you want a production caliber 7SAUM brass is not hard to find...
I've bear hunted in unit 1 quite a lot, still haven't' shot one though. The only bear Ive ran into is a grizzly, and I didn't have to shoot it fortunately. If you find bear sign near old logging activity you'd probably find some good trees for a stand, but other than that ya might have a hard...
Yea
Yeah, thats a pretty clean break. I'd say its a failed weld. I just recently ordered my first tubeless can from Griffin Armament. Got the Explorr 300. It's light, lets hope its tough!
The 2.5-15 is the exact one I was going to recommend. I've got one on a 16.5" 223 bolt gun and its amazing. Great for close in shooting, and the clarity is fantastic on 15x for longer shots. I really like it.
What caused your can to blow up? Have a bad baffle strike on it? I keep going with shorter and shorter bolt guns. I love them. Nice having them so compact. Next bolt gun I get will be a 14" 375 Raptor.
The TMK is not a gameking with a tip. It's a Matchking with a tip. The 130TMK is a great bullet in the 6.5 The 130TGK is as well. It's a tough bullet, for sure, and shoots extremely well. Either of them would make a great hunting bullet.
Personally, I dont think the 140's are gonna be great in a Grendel. I'd stick with a 130 and push it as fast as you can. Go for a 130TGK, they're a tough bullet, and you should get consistent pass throughs with it.
The downside of the Brownings is the lack of aftermarket support. If you're a tinkerer I'd stay away from Brownings. Plus, they tend to charge a lot for what you get, which I don't think is any nicer than a Tikka.
I'm not defensive over it. Just haven't had the issues with my rifles. I like how they shoot, and as with all my rifles, I ensure I never point them at anyone or anything I don't want to shoot. If I had an issue during my testing with them I'd sell them off. I've got a custom build on a Gunwerks...
What you said holds true for every rifle. Keep stuff out of the action and the trigger if you want optimal performance and guaranteed function. Don't adjust the trigger down to a hairs breadth of trigger pull, and take care of your gear. I've used Remington 700's and their clones my entire life...
Yeah, Tikkas are great but they're not the ONLY option. Lots of good ones. Though I caught some shit for it, the new Remington 700's with the 16.5" threaded barrel and Timney trigger can be found for a great deal. It's a 1-8" twist 5R barrel and shoots lights out. If only Tikka made a factory...
I've seen a lot of deer shot with various 223 bullets. Every one of them resulted in a dead deer. Is the 69TMK ideal? No, but if your rifle shoots them well and you place that bullet where it needs to go every time I wouldn't change anything until your barrel is shot out.
