    Very sad to hear this. Elk numbers are way down in Washington. Not sure what units you hunted but if not private hunting has been tough last several years. Hoof rot, and predators have decimated the SW.

    I have experienced the same results with same ammo and rifle. Just harvested my 5th deer with this combo, no problems. All shots were 200 yards plus. Not sure about close range.

    Very interesting read. The last few years of hunting has proven age does play a factor. I don’t think I will be packing elk out Solo anymore. Goats could prolong my solo hunting a few more years. Thank you for the article.
