Box call for the wind when you need to be loud. Slate when it's not windy. A diaphragm for that last cluck or purr when they're close and you can't move. Hard to shoot with a call in your hand. Don't over call. If they are cutting the distance to you let them come, they know where you're at.
I've killed a lot of turkeys with Winchester Long Beard XR. My old 870 patterns them really well. Never seen the need for TSS. I like to see how close I can get them, not how far I can shoot them.
As someone else said, watch the Rokslide classifieds and save some money. Lots of "never worn" or "worn once" at good discounts. I primarily use Sitka and Kuiu and I have not paid full price for anything. Kuiu has some good sales and Sitka "discontinued" sales are the way to go.
Get out in the woods and have fun. You'll make mistakes, we all have. That's how you learn. Gutting a deer is not brain surgery, just be careful and try not to puncture the bladder or the stomach or you'll lose a little meat. Just keep pulling and cutting until everything is out. I gutted my...
I don't think I've ever worn out a scope, but the newer coatings do improve light gathering. I still use an old Leupold VX2 3-9x40 that's 30+ years old on one of my guns and it still does what I need it to do for whitetails.
Were they thinking about cutting the bag limit on non-residents or everyone? Based on the population on our place {SW Oklahoma), cutting the bag limit would be one of the dumbest decisions they could make. We're killing two does for every buck we take and we are not making a dent in the number...
I initially thought it might be too small but it's not. I actually like the smaller size after using it a few times. Lot easier to do the detail work with than a bigger blade.
I haven't used the pants, but I've been pleased with the Dewpoint jacket (2022 version). It's kept me dry and does a great job breaking the wind. It's not quiet but if I'm using it, it's either raining or blowing hard so I don't care about the noise. Packs down small and has a permanent place in...
They definitely work. We back up a trailer, load them up and sell them to a high fence place. Try to recoup some of the money they’ve ate out of our protein feeders and turkey feeders.
