Muzzle velocity matters, in my 6.5cm the 143 eld-x is 2570fps. I've shot 2 mule deer sub 55 yards, one of those was 20 yards away, also taken a 450lbs+ black bear at 155 yards. Just stay off the shoulder shots if your worried about excessive meat damage
Hard to say, his teeth aren't worn down much. See if I can't find someone locally who's better at aging then myself. Odd thing about this bear was it was mid May when I harvested him but there was well over 6 inches of fat on him. Almost like he didn't hibernate or was up early and feeding. We...
Was one of those odd turn of events, just went out for a cruise in the local mountains that no one ever hunts. Saw 2 small bears on the way up into the mountains, hiked up another mountain just to see a solid bear crest the ridge into the tree line (decent 6 footer). I grabbed the predator call...
Not to pile on Nosler factory ammo, however last year I purchased there trophy grade accubonds for my tikka 6.5cm. First round I fired instantly knew something was wrong, heavy recoil and bolt stuck. Not a single other round in that box would chamber (had no intentions of firing after the first...
09 tacoma with the 2.7L 4 cyl. Standard .I've owned from brand new. 299,000km on it now, haven't had many issues other then having to do wheel bearings and transmission. Did a complete suspension swap out last year as old lift was getting long in the tooth
I've used the sitka ambient hoody from the beginning of the September straight through till now as a replacement for my heavyweight core that I somehow lost. Very versatile piece that's applicable to all weather conditions, moves heat well while moving and keeps you warm while static. Fit is...
For those wondering about close range shots I'll share my experiences. I have shot 4 bucks within 60 yards using a tikka t3x in 6.5cm with factory 143 eld-x bullets exiting the barrel at 2578fps avg.
-Blacktail at 40 yards slightly quartering away, double lung shot. Buck had front left leg...
I had the same issue with a previous tikka t3 that I used to own, excessive oil on the firing pin was the issue. As stated above just clean it with brake cleaner, this issue only showed itself in colder weather
I found the forearm to be the slickest with only a flat black coat on it, which was a problem when hunting coastal blacktail up here in BC. If you hunt areas with wetter climate, definitely make sure the stock is textured
Going on my 4 season with my wildcat stock, if your thinking about building a lightweight build and can hold out waiting till they ship to the states again I would highly advise it. Mine finished just shy of 20.6oz, stock was very slick with original finish I put on it, ended up redoing it with...
Not a member myself, but as far as people willing to help each other out or people willing to backpack hunt with others that group is the most welcoming. As far as ranges go I haven't been to a range in years, much rather go out to the bush to do some shooting.
Best bet would be to go to the local bha meeting once they start back up as the members there are a lot more friendly and welcoming then other clubs. That being said I live in the tri-cities and if your still looking next year let me know always willing to help like minded people
Welcome from yet another BC hunter, you'll find this site has a vast wealth of knowledge and people willing to help unlike the current state of the local forum
