Not a chemist, but as I understand it the issue arises when you use it in a small enclosed space like a tent without the vents open or a sealed up truck camper. In that environment, where you and the heater are both eating through the available oxygen, the burning becomes inefficient and CO...
I think was brought up as more "if you use cup and core bullets, then the 6.5 creedmoor or 308 will be excellent choices out of the ones you suggested. After all, if those tipped match bullets will kill anything even in a 223, as surely demonstrated in the 223 thread, then surely they'll be no...
Wow! That's incredible to do with all factory barrel and ammo. Looking at the outer pattern, you must have had 30+ rounds within a half inch.
How long did that take?
Maybe we're looking at a grazing shot from a tree stand?
This looks most likely to me. We're looking at both the entry and exit, and/or part of the trajectory was in the armpit.
Fair point to disagree on. I see them the same-- the wound channels are identical when impact velocity is the same, it's just a matter of the range at which it happens. Which is why I consider it a .223 thread, not a .223 Rem thread.
Cool vid, keep 'em coming!
Sure it is :)
I think "223 for bear mountain goat elk etc" includes 22 ARC plus 22 creed, 22-250, 222 Rem, 220 Swift and any other centerfire that starts out with a .224 bullet.
On mine, with the suppressor the balance is a lot more to the front, which will increase when I have a 16" barrel. A lot of that is the super-light stock with no buffer weight inside. Plus the Nightforce scope is a little heavy. So I would say overall there is a minor balance issue. However...
That is a 12" Smoke Composites handguard. Just wide enough to tuck a 1.75" diameter suppressor (have to line up carefully to have it remain free floated, though).
I have one of the Shaw barrels on the way. For those about to order, note that it is 1:8 not 1:7 (my 18" 1:8 stabilized 77gr bullets just fine).
When the Shaw gets here, I'll try it out in place of the 7" 300BO barrel I have below, and swap the Nightforce out with a Trijicon Accupoint for a...
Modern match bullets (73gr ELDMs or 77gr TMKs) are why I now carry an AR15 in brown bear country while hunting. Instead of the .338 or 12-gauge I carried for defense in brown bear rivers in the 90s while working for Fish and Game.
Thinking of that myself. Unfortunately Shaw still only has HBAR contours on their site, and they didn't respond when I emailed a couple of weeks ago asking about an unported 223 option.
