    Sako S20 Reccommendations

I picked up an S20 Precision version in 6.5 PRC from the Europtic sale. Mounted a NF 4-16 ATACR on it with NF 1” high rings. Also a 5 slot picatinny rail in the forward MLok slot for a bipod and a Salmon River Solution ARCA rail in front of mag well for my tripod. Cleaned a little carbon...

    Snow Shoes

Ahem… If I hadn’t bought a pair of MSRs off a fine gentleman here last year, I’d be all over these: http://general-jims.com/product/msr-snowshoe/

    Griz guide/backup cartridge

I'd say the Beretta 1301 or Benelli M4 are plenty reliable, maybe even more than a pump. I would also delineate between a backup gun for hunting bears and a strictly defensive gun for bear defense. Large bore rifle for the former, 12g semiautomatic for the latter...

    Ashland/Bayfield, Northwoods WI - bust

I grew up hunting in Columbia Co. Spent my 20’s & 30’s hunting the bluffs in Sauk Co. Have a friend with a farm in Richland Co. All world class whitetail experiences. (And know several people who saw cougars back then in the bluffs…) Moved to the Northwoods in 2006. For the first couple...

    Ashland/Bayfield, Northwoods WI - bust

We had a big snow mid April and another on April 30. I think those did most of the critters in. I’ve had a branch antlered bull on my cameras in May, which I thought was cool. But in the last couple weeks I’ve had repeated visits by a group of three spikes and another group of four cows...

    Ashland/Bayfield, Northwoods WI - bust

I’m a short distance northeast of the dome. Everything was hit hard by last winter. Not just the amount of snow, but we had a lot of it in April which seemed to finish most of them off. We had a lot of turkeys going into the fall, but few made it as well. And elk have seemed to be in the...

    Wild Game Chili Recipes

I like to use multiples; venison, beef, and pork. Some ground, some cubed. Red, white, and green onions. Jalepeno (gutted to reduce heat), red, and yellow peppers. etc. I may not make it the same way twice. Sometimes if I have the time, I’ll sear the roast and pit it on the smoker...

Large Bore Revolver in Chest Pack

I carried a 5” 629 Classic in the regular size HPG Kit Bag and it worked well. I’ve also had 5” 1911 and other similar sized autos in it as well. Excellent piece of gear.

    Awesome trail cam pictures?

Saw some tracks about 60-70 yards behind the house where I’m opening up an area for a food plot. Thought it must be the neighbor’s “slow elk” on the loose. Went and pulled the trail cam a little farther down the trail…

    Northern Wisconsin Big Woods...

The fields are just opening up today in Bayfield / Ashland Co. Was post-holing up to my need just two days ago in my yard. It’s all water and everything is flooding. Surviving deer are coming out during day and grazing on bare patches now. Probably won’t be any big bucks this year as if...

    Northern Wisconsin Big Woods...

I lived in Delta from 2006-2020. I hunted and ran cameras in the Rainbow Wilderness and surrounding areas. No question wolves had a great effect. In 2006, you would have to dodge deer the whole length of the Delta - Drummond road. But in a few years they were a rarity to see. I forget...

Anyone appendix carry with an RMR/MRD?

I should put a plug in for JM Custom Kydex. One of the best in AIWB Kydex. I have read good things about Tenicor, but have no reason to look anywhere else but JM Custom.

Anyone appendix carry with an RMR/MRD?

Yes. No. No. Biggest problem is lint accumulation on the open emitter optic.

    Action / Trigger job on a 629-1

Oh, and check out VZ grips…just got a new round-to-square set of stocks. They are machined out of G10 laminate. Very comfortable and grippy for when my hands are covered in blood and slippery.

    Action / Trigger job on a 629-1

Nice find! I am the third owner of a 629-3 in the 5” classic version. I was told it had been worked over by the S&W Custom Shop, so you may want to check with the factory and see if you can send it home for an overhaul / upgrade. Otherwise, I’ve read that a lot of the well regarded...
