Selling my Rem 700 in 300 Ultra Mag. Comes with the Talley one piece bases. Scope is not included. I also have 140rds of assorted factory ammo and dies to go with it. Rifle is in good condition but it has been hunted with so it's not pristine. I included a grip and grin pic so you know she's a...
And usually hiking as quietly as possible, and deliberately walking upwind so they can't smell you coming, and usually in thick cover where you and the bear have poor visibility, and prime hunting hours are right after and right before dark when bears are most active... the list goes on and on
Comically bad comparison.
60+ people per year. Appx 330 million humanoids in the US presently. That gives us a 1 in 5,500,000 chance for death by bee type creature. There's nowhere near 5.5 million people hunting in grizzly territory. And hunters aren't getting messed up because they're...
Anyone have experience with both? Any preference or reasons one way or the other?
Secondary: Have you ever had your M5 DBM fall out and wish you had a hunter model?
This. Unless you have LOTS of vacation days, go one year with one tag, learn a unit, maybe get an elk. Go back again the next year with knowledge and experience on your side and have and even better chance of killing an elk. Free unsolicited advice. Good luck either way!
On our archery hunt in Wyoming this past September we crossed paths with a resident who used to work for WF&G. We asked him about the units around Yellowstone and how bad the bear situation really was and he said quote, "It's bad. You don't hear but a fraction of the the encounters that happen...
Oh absolutely! This was actually my third hunt, second elk, first with the bow. All in the group have cut our teeth in the OTC game and weere hoping 4 years of point building would have yielded a few more encounters, even if we didn’t walk away with anymore elk.
Thursday: Towards the end of our boondoggle the day before, Steve and Kris wanted to rent a cabin and sleep in a real bed, but I complained enough to convince them to spend the night on the mountain. “We’ll never hear a bugle in a cabin”. That might have been a mistake. At 12:30 the still night...
As we finish setting up camp Kris spots a grouse. Having been denied his prize earlier in the day he takes a shot and hits. The bird walks to within 3 feet of my tent and I deliver the killing shot. The grouse is cleaned and hung, after which we climb to get a look at the terrain we’ll target...
I know some on this site really enjoy a good write up. If that be your taste, and this qualifies, enjoy. This was written mostly for individuals who are not hunters so excuse some of the Captain Obvious moments.
Friday: Left Waukesha around 6:45AM and got to Ogallala by 7ish. Checked into hotel...
While I agree, feet first, I don't think it's as black and white as most of these comments are making it. My first elk hunt was done entirely in a pair of $60 cabelas low hikers, but that was possible because they were comfortable, and gave zero issues to me personally. Sure I eventually saved...
