    Adding hip vents to pants

Great write up! Thank you for sharing. Do you think using some basting tape would help hold the folds together while you worked? I’m going to give this a try the next time I’ve got my sewing machine out.

    WTT The Boot Trading thread

Hi all, I’m looking for some calk/spike boots in size 12. Ideally meindl or similar, but old school leather logger boots would work too. Not interested in rubber boots, I need to cover too many miles in a day. I’m happy to pay cash, or I have brand new never worn Danner quarry (regular lug sole)...

Field Judging Mountain Lions (Game Camera)

Do you have a picture of anything of a known size, (like you or a buddy walking in the same spot) taken from the same camera?

    How close is too close?

Well, it seems pretty unanimous that he should have let it fly. Now I guess have to go back out to the mountains…

    How close is too close?

How close is too close to take a shot on a big black bear? Last week I was out in the central Oregon wilderness for archery elk season. I was calling for a friend who was hunting with a stick bow. While we were creeping around a big meadow to get the wind right he had a black bear that we...

Switching from Squeeze filter to steripen

My steripen never leaves the house. I tried to like it, but just more haste than it’s worth. I go with the befree when I’m solo and the platy gravity when with a group. But to answer your question you could absolutely steripen water in a bottle and then transfer to a bladder. But why?

Aim Low on Elk for Archery?

I aim at a point that will produce a wound channel that passes through the vitals, ideally the heart. If it’s a broadside on level ground that’s a point right behind the shoulder 1/3 of the way up the body. In theory this will produce an exit wound in the same spot on the other side of the...

    Best stove/pot combo

I switched away from the jet boil last year. Now I use a toaks 750 and one of those cheap folding esbit stoves. I’m pretty happy with it. Lighter and a little less bulky. I make my own dehydrated meals and one fuel tab will boil exactly enough water for one two serving meal.

What packs are all you gram weenies using?

Seek Outside peregrine. It can handle a five day minimalist early season hunt no problem. For late season, or longer hunts I use the same frame but switch bags to a 6300.

    Sold Ultimate Hunting Toyota

Very nice! I’m sure it’s unstoppable off road. How does it handle on the Highway? Is it tame enough for the freeway, or is it only fit for short patches of pavement between gravel/logging roads?

    Sucessful Washington Elk hunters...

Yes. Absolutely. Hunting the coastal jungle it’d be easy to think you don’t need them, but they really come in handy. I’ve used them to spot elk bedded down on the fringe of a clear cut, which can be tough when the ferns and salal are four feet tall. They also come in handy when walking through...

    Sucessful Washington Elk hunters...

I used to hunt western WA. I’d have a bunch of encounters during early archery but never killed anything until late archery season. I’d kill a cow almost every year still hunting. I moved to Oregon and decided to focus on the mountains. It took me six years to figure it out and kill an elk. When...

To guide lid or not to guide lid...

Using a lid is about the only way I can manage not smashing my lunch. I use a seek outside peregrine which has a ton of outer pockets for organizing. I still put a kifaru x-pac OGL on it for more organization (and my lunch).
