That'll work, too. I also carry extra socks, just in case.
Since winter hiking requires carrying a lot of "stuff" for use at the destination (puffy pants, puffy jacket, stove, fuel, extra gloves, insulated mug, etc) I don't want to carry any more than I have to. I'm starting to have trouble...
For cold weather hiking, 35 degrees and under, when you have a specific destination and will be inactive at that destination for several hours until it's time to hike out.
For the insulated leather boot to keep you warm at your destination it needs enough insulation in grams, the right socks (I...
My apologies. I didn't mean hinged door. I interpreted your post #70 as meaning you were going to use bolts instead of rivets for the stove body hinges.
Post #70:
"Working on some updates, wasn't happy with the way the fasteners were reacting with extended heat. Going to a bolt instead of...
If you don't mind me saying, if you can, you're better off to stake the set screws.
For example, AR/M4 gas key is staked against all kinds of forces and when done right never loosens.
Be sure to use a proper staking tool and tap it with hammer until you get good swaging. Don't try to do it...
Note the Speedrite AN20 energizer is 0.4 Joules Output. That's under the 0.5-0.7 Joules Output recommended by Montana FW. FWIW, at least.

Below is cut/paste of PDF page 5, from Montana FW link above. Cutting to the chase, MTFW recommends energizer with MINIMUM 0.5-0.7 Joules OUTPUT.
(Note: I've never used such a fence but have read up on them for some time. The only 1.0 Joules Output energizer I've seen is from Bear Sentry...
Here's what some Alaskans say about bears, guns, and bear spray. For example, comment #19:
"Yeah, and I have had them charge me when I was minding my own business. Lots of interactions with bears when I was logging on the coast. If I tried to convince you how many bears I dealt with on a...
Thanks for the AK tips.
My trip is a retirement recon trip. Three weeks is laughable but it's what I got. If I ever retire to AK I'll have time to properly visit the wilds. Yukon Charlie and Wrangel St. Elias are at the top of my list. Gates and Brooks, also.
And a long float trip, too...
"If it can go wrong, it will go wrong". For better or worse, this is engrained in me. A thing is extremely unlikely until it happens. As the enraged sow closes the last ten feet with blood red eyes, will the victim be thinking:
~ "So glad I brought this 9mm"
or
~ "What the **** was I...
Friend, no need to cover up. Three elements show your post was directly aimed at me:
(1) It was the first response to my post
(2) It plainly referenced me by saying "you" nine times, in context of bear defense. You wrote:
- The notion that you will be able to effectively use your hunting...
"I'd never carry a 9mm for bear defense. Black or otherwise."

Me neither. But I won't criticize someone who does. They might not have anything else to carry or can't afford something bigger. We're all here for love of outdoors and hunting.
Now, if I...
Read my post again. I flat out said I'd need to practice with a S&W .500 magnum.
Now, I can shoot my 6" S&W 629-1 (.44 mag) fast enough I occasionally used it for plate shoots only 5 years ago.
I can shoot a .500 S&W half as fast as the 629-1, and about as accurate, too. But, again, I'd need...
