Turned 40 in mid-July and decided my mid-life crisis would be throwing caution to the wind and trying to get a cow elk before Labor Day.
Already an onx member, so I bought the elk101 online course, watched all of Randy's e-scouting vids and even contacted wescout4u, but they were fully booked...
I think for a lot of people who don't live near mountains, the appeal is the actual mountains/land. I bow hunt in the midwest and its nothing compared to seeing the sheer size of elk territory.
Based on some of the last comments, is it safe to assume that the airline won't have to check your bow before checking it in, but if you include a firearm, they do and that will keep it from being reopened?
Im deciding between driving and flying out west and this thread is now super relevant to me.
From Illinois and when I dropped off my bow to get restrung, the shop dudes said my regular whitetail muzzy fixed broad heads would do fine - but who know if those dudes have even seen a mountain, let alone shot an elk...
Im in the same boat and after considering all options, I chose Idaho archery for a cow tag, mostly because I can do it mid august before most people are out and I can use wescout4u to do the scouting for me before I get there.
I know thats sacrilegious on this forum, but its my first elk hunt...
