What to do with a pre war Model 70 Winchester

Preserve the best condition box of ammo by wraping in plastic wrap to maintain condition. Keep it with the rifle. That grizzly Winchester ammo is very collectable and dates with the rifle. Good stuff there. Love it,

What to do with a pre war Model 70 Winchester

I'm a Model 70 guy so my opinion on what to do with that rifle is prejudiced by my interest. Rifles in this condition will only be original once. Over the years, I've seen so many fine firearms modified, destroying their originality. As stated, this rifle comes from an era when handwork and...

    Boot break in

A pair of feet is like a rifle barrel, each an individual. I have narrow feet with high arches. My Kenetrek mountain extremes provide the best fit that I've ever worn. Very little break-in on these. I bought a pair of Schnee Granites which have a much larger toe area (room for heavier...

    Favorite National Park

Yellowstone is my favorite. I first saw the park as a 13 year old kid in 1961 while traveling with my uncle. We camped in Canyon Village campground with many very nice people who were traveling on a shoestring budget as were we. The sheer numbers and variety of wildlife were amazing (Quite a...

    Digital Caliper question

    P. Your Mitutoyo caliper is a good tool. There is a "feel" that one must develop in using precision measuring tools. Your caliper is especially susceptible to feel and measurements can be skewed by variations in pressure applied. It takes some practice.

    Kowa Big Eyes Setup

On the Swarovski side by side binocular, I believe the main reason for using the variable eyepiece is that the 30X eyepieces are no longer made. Occasionally a 30x appears on ebay. For optical sharpness the fixed power eyepiece is superior to the variable eyepiece.

    New 4473 for gun purchases

Brownbear RE: "No because those records..." 4473s are held by the FFl holder while in business. What is not commonly known is that upon cessation of business, the FFL holder must ship form 4473s and "bound books" to the ATF. At least this was the law some years ago. This in effect...

Why not more DIY “big eyes”?

I have not checked on the physical size limitations of : say a 95mm or 115 Swarovski with STX oculars that might prevent their assembly into "binoculars". I'm too old and financially challenged to do it, even if possible. It would be awsome glass though, as would the big Kowas.

Why not more DIY “big eyes”?

Spotting scopes assembled as binoculars have been a staple for long range hunters in Pennsylvania for many years. Many years ago, Meischner (sp?) instruments in New England made a bracket to hold two B & L Balscope srs. Later a superior combination was two Bushnell Spacemaster IIs (many...

    Double Barrel Rifle

carter, I an not a DR owner but I've come close to "pulling the trigger" on one several times. I think that the Kreighoff is a sound rifle. After handling a few in my search, I decided that it would take me a very long time to become acclimated to the decocker/cocker "safety system " on...

    Spotter overkill for Yellowstone?

Definitely take both. You will see lots of glass set up in the Lamar Valley (lots of wolve viewers). there are several places where it is worthwhile to take time to set up a spotting scope and just enjoy what is available. ie. Mountain Goats near the Northeast entrance. Hope you enjoy...

L.L. Bean Maine Hunting Shoes Opinions Needed

Just some more observations. I've been wearing LL Bean 10" Maine hunting boots for 50 yeqrs. I normally wear an 11 1/2 shoe or boot but wear 11 in the Bean boot. I primarily wear them as a chore boot. The insoles provided are junk so plan on aftermarket insoles. Seal the seams prior to...
