I was between a Kimber Hunter, Savage lightweight, and Tikka T3 Superlite, and I ended up with the Kimber in 6.5 Creedmoor. It's insanely light for the price point, easily 1 moa when you figure out what load the gun likes, and an all around great buy.
I think the accuracy issues you've heard...
I found the exact lat/long (49.5160° N, 122.7050° W) of the spot you're looking for. It has a pretty interesting name that describes the spot perfectly. Best of luck.
You can get a T3X superlite for $780, put a McMillan Hunters edge sporter on it for $493, and you'll be at about $1300, and have one hell of a nice rifle that still weighs enough to soak up recoil, but not feel like you're carrying around a boat anchor.
I think it's too heavy if you're lugging it up and down mountains. Maybe I'm a big sissy, but 9 plus pounds is noticeably heavy at the end of the day.
The Tikka t3x superlite in 300 win with a Leopold vx3HD is only 7 lbs 2 Oz and the recoil is extremely mild with a limbsaver pad.

Maybe so. The remington factory weight is off by ALOT. My AWR in 30-06 without a scope is 8 pounds 2 oz. With a leupold VX Freedom 3-9x40 on it, it comes in a 9 pounds 4.5 oz. The last time i weighed the M70 and AWR side by side, the M70 saved a pound. I wish i would've bought the M70 over...
If you're stuck on the 300 win mag or 7mm mag, I would look at the Tikka T3x Superlite, Winchester M70 EWSS, or Kimber Montana. My best buddy has a Tikka T3x Superlite in 300 Win mag, and it's a great rifle. The recoil is suprisingly not that bad at all. I'm partial to Kimber. Their rifles...
I was the same as you. I was all about whitetail hunting and didn't truly appreciate the difference that 3 pounds makes when in the mountains until i went on my first elk hunt and felt like my arm was going to fall off lugging my AWR around. From what i've seen with sending a rifle over to LRI...
What is your goal with the gun? I have a 30-06 AWR, and absolutely love it. The fit, finish, stock, ergonomics, and accuracy are amazing. The downside is that it's on the heavier side. If you're going to be climbing up mountains all day, i think there are better options. IMO, it would be...
If they're digging into the top of your toes after that amount of mileage, then you have a volume issue. I don't know of a single boot that will break in and increase the volume across the top of the foot, especially if there is a rubber rand involved. The only remedy i can think of would be...
Oh man, I was just talking about this with my wife over the weekend. It's the one issue that absolutely boils my blood. I constantly offer to take people out hunting with me, the trip is planned a few weeks prior to meet up at 0300 to drive out to the east side of the Cascades, I'll call to...
I personally think tripod leg "stiffness" comes directly from how many leg segments there are, the angle of the legs, leg thickness, and how good the twist locks are. I currently have a Promaster XC-M 525C, and it's a great little tripod, but fully extended it's pretty garbage IMO. I sold a a...
Congrats on the tag. I'm very envious. I hunt the Wenaha for spike and it's my favorite hunt of the year. Brutally steep, weather is all over the place. Hunt the burns and you'll find some studs. If you need any info, PM me and i'll see if I can help. Ill be down there October 30-November...
If I were you, i would apply for any tag I can get, and full send it. The learning curve will be A LOT less with a guide, but half of the fun is figuring it out on your own. Flying VS driving comes down to time. How much is your time worth, and does driving afford your more flexibility or...
***Update***
I sent the Salewa Mtn Trainers into Goretex for a warranty claim due to them leaking like a faucet. The whole experience was painless. I contacted Goretex, explained the situation, and they sent me a warranty claim to fill out and ship the boots back to their testing facility...
