I use 63 grains of H4350, Norma brass, Federal Mag primers and 168 grain Barnes ttsx’s. I get an easy bolt lift and slight ejector swipe marks.
I think Norma brass may be a little soft. I get swipe marks on their factory 300 wsm Bondstrikes also.
I would love to hunt a Michigan Upper Peninsula old time deer camp on public land. Complete with a wall tent, 30-30, red and black wool plaid and a camp deer tag to eat venison while everyone was in camp.
The problem is because of lots of wolves and horrible winters there aren’t many deer in the...
Because it became known either through marketing or just pure luck as the “Rifleman’s Rifle” .
I personally think that they are a beautiful piece of American machinery made by craftsmen that hand fitted a lot of the parts together.
The Rifle really likes Hornady Precision Hunter 178 grain factory loads. I also handload for it with StaBall 6.5 and 168 grain Nosler ABLR’s and they shoot great also.
Kimber Mountain Ascent 30-06. Leupold 4.5x14 cds scope. Very lightweight to carry. The target depicts 3 shots with the brake and 3 without.
I’ve been very happy with it.
It is a thumper without the brake but not totally uncomfortable.
Go for the Superdown and pack it in with you. I was in 27 for the late hunt last year and it was cold in the mornings and in the 40’s in the afternoon. Layers are your friend. I love the zip off Superdown and the zip off merino long John’s so you don’t have to take your boots off.
Have fun...

Thank you for your response and explanation. You can expect my order next week!
Also I talked with two people at your shop the other day by phone. Both were very professional, friendly and helpful.
Thanks again!

SDHNTR,
You are right. A classic should remain a classic with the proper barrel contour. Plus it will be easier to stock.
When I talked with LRI they advised that they had stainless barrels made for them. Not sure what company though. The barrel guy told me and it wasn’t a company that I had...
I actually called Longrifles today. You’re right, not cheap but it sounds and looks like they really know what they are doing.
I’m thinking about going that route.
Still debating on the proof barrel vs a typical stainless. Finding a stock I like for a sendero lite profile is the next challenge.
I found the original box for the rifle. I bought it new in 2003. It’s mostly been a safe queen. I did kill a couple of black bears with it though.
I also had the idea that I was going to use it for an elk hunt.
I shot it quite a bit trying to get it to shoot consistently for that hunt but…
