What bullets are you shooting this season?
Two deer with 7mm RM and 143 hammer hunters. First one was small meat deer at 310, just got ribs and it left a great exit. Second was a poor shot by me (had been impacting low) , spined a nice 7pt wt and put the next through his neck at 255. Won't be turning back from hammers. -

Remage with a McGowan 8 twist, MC3 hunting stock, vortex viper 2.5-10, basic timney 512 due my Calvin Elite going belly up, have to find time to send it back in. I shoot 95 NBTs for hunting. It's a fun and accurate gun for sure -

Advice: Hammer Seating Depth Test

Why no love for the Ruger Hawkeye?
I just picked up a tang safety 270, it's a very plain old deer rifle. Usually gets about 2.5" at 200 yards, cant complain about it. Also have a 338 Federal in a Hawkeye, it's more consistent, my go to wet weather rifle. That being said, there's not much after market support, they are heavy... -

Starting in with .223
If you're used to trickling, just throw a tenth grain light or so and dribble a few more kernels in for accuracy. For ARs I choose throwable powders when possible, but I have one that prefers RL15. R23 in 7RM info
145 LRX, 0.050" off the lands, Nosler brass 64.8gr RL23 gets me 3200 fps out of a 26" barrel. It's accurate to 500 yards, longest I've shot it. EDIT: it's different from RL22, don't use it as a direct replacement. As always, work up to your loads. My load is max in my rifle. -

Timney Elite Hunter Issue
+1 for trigger tech. Unless there's no other option, that's all I'll be buying now. I have plenty of Timney's that will probably be replaced for trigger techs in the future. -

Products to use during barrel break in?
Another boretech fan, I use eliminator as it seems to work best. I do the shoot one and patch for five, then go to three shot sequences for five series, gives me a total of 20 rounds. After that I start shooting as the rifle is intended, be it 3 shot groups for hunting or 5 shot for bench... -

Brass volume new vs once fired
I use a chrono and find the velocity of the load that shoots well with new brass then I shoot once fired to see if it's the same velocity. If not I add/subtract to make it the same then test again, should get you right where you want. The chrono info will help you any time you change lots for... -

338 Federal loads

I hunt the woods with a Winchester M88 308 rifle that used to be my grandfather's. It can hold a pie plate out to 250 yards, so it's good enough for hunting for me. I love quicker follow up shots with this old gun. -
