It’s been a game changer for me. I’ve only hauled out half a deer in a load but the frame wasn’t undergunned at all. For comfort in daypack mode I’m super happy.
My hunting partner runs a mule and is very happy with it but he’s six inches taller than me.

I’m 5’8 and 190, I wear a 34” pant. A large popup 28 fits me well with the height adjustment cinched down. As others have said I feel like you might be right on the border line, I think you could make a large work but xl may be better.

I had the opportunity to haul out half a deer with my MR Popup 28 yesterday. I’ve loved it so far as a day pack and after hauling half a blacktail out of a typical blacktail hell hole I can’t recommend it enough.
My best friend runs the MR mule for the same purpose and loves it.

My everyday cant leave home without it knife is a North Arm Skaha. It’s an incredible flipper that takes an edge super easy. I got it through the winter so haven’t put it to an animal yet but I have no doubt it will do awesome. They are made by a father/son company about half an hour from my...
Another vote for Eddie Bauer here, I absolutely love their guide pants. I choose them over my Sitka most of the time now.
For the $22 they cost I also am incredibly happy with wrangler’s outdoorsy type pants from wal mart and target.

I do a hot pan with a pile of butter and white wine cooked down to a thick-ish sauce with garlic and spice then fry up cubes or strips of meat. We usually have it over rice or with veggies. My wife loves it.

I can’t comment on the hybrid pack but I’ve used both the commander and commander x packs from Alps. I’ve packed out deer with both and they do a damn fine job for the dollar.
I have a popup28 now and find it far superior for regular use but I haven’t had a chance to haul out an animal with it...
I have both bags. I dread wearing the dragonfly, I won’t enter the bush without my popup28.
I have a shorter torso and the size of the popup makes all the difference in the world for me. I’ve had up to 50 lbs in it and felt good.

My personal experience and the reason the popup was a standout for me was frame height. I’m not overly tall at about 5’8” and having a full length frame was driving me nuts climbing in the near vertical black tail woods of British Columbia. Trying to look up and hitting my head on the top of my...
