    Need Food Advice

Great recommendations. I've added 1/4 cup (1 serving) of skittles and a couple hard candies for something sweet each day. The protein/granola bars I have are also very chocolate/caramel/sweet. Also going to swap tuna sammy for a bagel/PB lunch a couple days to get a little more variety. I'm...

    Need Food Advice

Anyone think I should be concerned about the protein? I've seen suggestions for 1g per pound of body weight if you want to keep your muscles rebuilding properly and not crash around day 3/4. I'm along way from 200g.

    Need Food Advice

Totally forgot I have a handful of Pro Bar Meals and Cliff Bars tucked away. I tried them a few weeks ago when I was out there for a little camping/scouting trip with my son. My stomach struggled with them I think because they are so "rich" tasting. Hopefully if I eat them at lunch with the...

    Need Food Advice

Prepped my daily food rations tonight for CO opener, and I'm concerned it's short compared to some the guidelines I've seen posted. 6 days total. Planning to go in with 4 days food and camp on my back, but move after 3 if I'm not into elk. Breakfast: oatmeal or MH scrambled eggs Morning Snack...

    Pre-season Scares

Reading most of these made me feel pretty good about my situation. On a MUCH MUCH better note, I owe a huge thanks to the local shop - Archery Country. They tracked down the part, expedited shipping, turned it around in less than a day after receiving it, and by 4:30 today I had a message that...

    Pre-season Scares

Ultimately, I'm pretty sure I would have broke down and bought a replacement even though it's not really in the budget. Having to get a new bow picked out, setup, dialed in, and comfortable in a week would have been a huge blow to my confidence.

    Pre-season Scares

Last night while shooting I had a cam fail on my bow. It's an 11 year old Bowtech General that was only made for 1 or 2 years, so I was not optimistic about new replacement parts being available. Bowtech customer service and local shops were all closed by the time this happened. I scoured ebay...

    Newb boot question

Thanks for the input guys. I bit the bullet and opened up the wallet for a pair of Crispi Summit's tonight. Also sized them a little bigger than I normally would. The higher tops absolutely drive me crazy, but hopefully I get used to that after some miles. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

    Newb boot question

I do think the 1/2 size is part of the problem. My left foot is a bit bigger and I frequently find myself meeting in the middle with one foot being a touch snug and the other a touch loose. One foot was definitely worse than the other. I didn't look at Crispi when I bought these, but have heard...

    Newb boot question

My boots are shorter, probably around 6". My feet are always warm and shorter boots are more comfortable. Even tall socks I find mildly annoying. At this point I know I'd rather have the annoyance of tall boots over sore toes.

    Newb boot question

Just got back from a week of camping, hiking, and scouting in Colorado with my son. My boots were broke in and comfortable from the conditioning I was doing prior to the trip, but it's been all flatland hiking with my pack. They fit snug but felt good. In one spot we hiked in about 5 miles and a...

    TOPO - what's steep?

Clearly I need to spend more time in Google Earth. I had no idea it had the elevation features mentioned. I was using the onX contours and distance tool to calc grades. I've identified a half dozen areas I want to study in more detail. Most of them would be loops that minimize any doubling back...

    TOPO - what's steep?

I'm trying to narrow down a few potential hunting areas in CO with google earth, onX, etc., but having never been there I don't have a good reference point for how steep is steep. Does anyone have grade/slope/degree guidelines they'd be willing to share? What do you consider flat, average, and...
