Desert tech fan here since back when they were dta and indexed the barrels on a sacrificial pin.
My covert is an excellent hunting rifle and I doubt I could do better. Offhand and positional shots are great thanks to the balance.
The egos are the only thing that can be an issue for some...

I've had good luck with regular old strap up stock packs most of the time if only a little boost is needed.
308 is super versatile. Good call. I'd hit something on upper limit of the cartridge.y vote is 300 win mag, 7mm mag, or 338 edge if you don't mind being a little weird lol.
Privi 303 brit brass here. No issues. Anneal every 5 firings. Medium loads, nothing hot hot hot. Accuracy is very acceptable for what the rifle is. No brass complaints here, but ymmv of course.
Normally I use good brass, so I don't bother. I've had to make due with lower quality brass, and neck turning did help there.
Some rifles have, by accident or design, a tighter neck tolerance. Those would benefit of course.
