Not to be argumentative, but I'm a little confused at what your rant is and have a couple questions.
1. Why did you hike in before opening season to hike out opening day if you were hunting?
2. Why do you expect people not to camp where you saw elk months ago? Elk migrate through campgrounds...
1st. You mentioned the blind was 300 yards of the antelope with is defiantly within range for some hunters.
2nd. Was there someone in the blind? Seems like a strange question if you saw an antelope and blind, decided to stalk the antelope due to local conditions but weren't successful, and...
For me, it's not really a big deal either way. Rarely do I eat a big breakfast as it takes too much time when hunting, but at least either lunch or dinner will be a hot meal. If I can during lunch, great. If not, then dinner is a great time. More so depends on hunting style and less so on...
Just curious, but can you share your stories of filling both tags? I've hunted elk and deer but never had success trying to hunt both at the same time. It always seems like successful elk hunting strategy doesn't equate to successful deer hunting and vice versa.
Depends on where and what altitude you'll be at. At around 12k feet in September (Colorado), I've been sun burned and sweating at 85 degrees, and just the year prior dumped about 2-3 feet of snow over a couple days in the same spot. I would never pack in somewhere without at least a puffy and...
Any advice/links to videos or articles to help with new saddle hunters? I'm in South GA and been wanting to try saddle hunting this year for whitetails but it's pretty intimidating with all the different information out there. Hard to tell where to get started.
Personally, I don't agree with setting up camps to leave unattended for the sake of staking a plot. Base camps with spike camping makes sense to me, but setting up before I plan to be in the woods doesn't. If it's a long way from the road, it just makes twice the hiking distance to set up...
If it's off the beaten path, why would you need to "stake your claim" to the spot?
While I don't really have too much of an opinion on whether it's poor taste or not, I'm more curious on why you would want to set up camp a week before you'll be back to hunt.
Just curious, have you used gas saws in the same temps without issue? I'm looking to get another chainsaw for hunting work (nothing big, just clearing fallen trees and shooting lanes) but have been debating a gas vs electric and am curious about your experience.
I would be more upset that you can't hunt DIY (without a sponsor) in a US federally designated wilderness area than try to be upset at another country for their laws... Referring to Wyoming if you didn't get the hint.
I think a spare magazine is more for malfunctions/loss then for additional ammo for shooting. A lot of pistol malfunctions (failure to feed) are caused by bad magazines and not the gun. Also, what if your mag fell out when hiking? Not sure what holster you use but not all of them cover the...
Depends on what capabilities you want/need from a watch. I use them for tracking fitness (runs/cycling) but really like the added benefit of a backup navigation device. It's quick to drop a pin at your truck/wherever just in case you get lost. It works as a backup GPS and backup compass in...
How did you like it and why are you getting rid of it? I already have an IWB and OWB holster for my P30SK that I like but was curious about giving this a try.
