Most likely you are running a smaller deficit than you think.
Firstly, do not include scale weight lost in the first 7-14 days of a cut in your calculation of energy expenditure, as much of this weight is just glycogen/water.

If you were going to carry both a GPS and radio anyway, the Rino combines the two in a reasonable package. That said, it will chew through batteries much faster than a dedicated radio. If you spend much time in the back country the battery issue could easily become unmanageable.

I've done elk or venison jerky and bresaola and also cured venison sausages (smoked). Using recipes from Ruhlman and Polcyn's book you can hardly go wrong.
In general, that is how doppler chronographs work. These devices measure a sample of downrange velocities and extrapolate back to the muzzle. Obviously the sensor has a range limitation, and I'd guess that 100 yards is probably close to it.
Shouldn't really be needed, since the Garmin already measures downrange velocity directly. Though it would be great if they gave us a way to extract this intermediate data.
My vote would be the T/C Encore, but production has been on hiatus and I'm not sure when it will resume.
There are some more modern inline muzzy options in a factory package these days, but the prices are not far off from custom yet.
