Hard to go wrong with anything 6.5. What’s lightweight? Tikka, Barrett, or custom are your huckleberries. Shot many a barrel out of Tikkas. Never had one that wasn’t MOA or close. The stock works better than you’d think, but upgrades aren’t a bad decision. KRG chassis make the most sense to...
Unfortunately, Nosler anything is an easy pass. I’ve had a few of their rifles due to impressive discounts at SW. None were great, Apparently I’m a slow learner. :)
Lots of good rifles out there. Save yourself the headache. If going over the counter, get a Tikka. Owned many, shot many a...
I use bullets to break my barrels in. I’ve been following this method for 20+ barrels. I clean if accuracy drops (pretty rare and many rounds). I also clean to verify if the barrel is shot out (sometimes). Barrels wear out. I replace them like tires on a truck. Except barrels are usually...
I’ve killed a lot of animals with both. I’ve had front row seats to even more. From antelope to deer to elk. I’ve seen my own hits and the hits of others while spotting. I honestly can’t tell a difference. I like the 6.5 a little better with its slightly better ballistics and slightly less...
Timney makes great triggers and the Elite Hunter is no exception. I like Triggertech a little better, but have 3 rifles with Timneys. They all get shot a lot with no problems.
The folks at Accurate Ordnance build pretty awesome rifles and their service is fantastic. I’m a happy customer and the Hide and other sites are full of positive reviews. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I’ve ever read about a bad experience with them.
I only use picatinny rails and quality rings. NF and Seekins are my go to’s. A rail and quality rings provide very distinct advantages:
- Easy scope mounting. Change scopes? Troubleshooting? Easy peasy. Leveling is easy with a deck of cards or a drop line if you have one handy.
- Robust...
Yep. That sums up my Cooper experience in a nutshell (4 rifles). Lowly 5 shot groups were never near 1/2 MOA on any of them. That applies to most rifles. I’m not saying 1.5 MOA is a bad place to be, but in my experience few rifles are true sub-MOA. Some recent examples for me of true...
CDS and the ilk are non-starters where I shoot and hunt. Environmentals change which mean ballistics change. Bullets change, too. I don't see the sense in being handcuffed to a custom turret or reticle. MIL/MIL (preferred) or MOA/MOA for me every time. YMMV.
Agreed. The SWFA 6X SS would work perfect for your application. I generally stick with Seekins, NF, or Badger Ordnance hardware. More weight, but less drama.
I'd also consider how you're going to use it. If you use turrets or shoot a lot, I'd have a hard time recommending Leupold. I had several that failed me when I started using turrets...they seemed to have held up fine for years before I started twisting on the erector and shooting a lot. I...
If you're going to consistently spin turrets, I'd avoid Vortex entirely. The few PST's I owned all developed issues with tracking or failure to RTZ. Great folks in customer service, though.
SWFA has a sale right now on their SS fixed and variables. I'd start there first.
Yep. I picked up my first Tikka's a few weeks ago, a pair of T3X CTR's, and had intended on replacing the stocks with Manners or McMillan. To my surprise the stocks aren't half bad and much better than I thought they'd be. I have no immediate desire to replace them.
I am selling a Cooper M54 Laminate Stainless (.308 WIN) that is in excellent condition. This rifle has been fired approximately 40 times. I didn’t do any load development as I only had this rifle to the range twice. The 168gr. TTSX shot the best at around a ½”, 5-shot group. I believe I...
