Was spectacular. I was limited to a week of hunting because I drew a CO archery ram tag for dang near the same dates and had to dedicate all my time both scouting and hunting to that. I passed multiple bulls in the 320s waiting on a giant and had my opportunity. Shot a 350ish bull in the...
I've been scouting for several years now and plan on hunting this coming fall. Deer are doing well this year. Average winter in the basin with great snowpack surrounding so should be a good year to have a tag. Happy to discuss options.
Thanks for the kind words, Scott.
Hoping to do this tag right though I've got a sheep tag same dates. Thanks to those who have reached out with intel. The hunt is sounding better with every new thing I read/hear. I drew the single NR tag. There are 12 total bull tags. If anyone has any...
Wondering if anyone would be willing to share any info on this unit/hunt. I just found out I drew and would love to hear any opinions or info you're willing to share. I'd be glad to return the favor if there's anything I can help folks with in terms of hunting intel. I know this is a...
If politics are a deciding factor of where you'd like to live then I'd agree with the negative comments on CO. That said, it's not a factor for me and I love Colorado for its wilderness and hunting opportunities. I kill at least 4 species on public land, easy to draw hunts every year here and...
Both tags sounds nice but it’s a mistake. Very rarely will you find both in the same places. Hunt elk first. The deer tag won’t creep nearly like elk will if at all and you’ll catch 76 NR archery deer in a few years. Good luck regardless
I looked through both the swaro and meopta before buying the meopta 15s. They are close enough that the difference in cost wasn't worth it for me. I also got a killer deal on the meoptas. I will say that unless your vision is absolutely perfect, you won't notice a difference.
A combination of what others have said. I’ve actually found a few from guys straight up telling me,”There’s elk up there but no way in hell im going up there to kill one.”
Mostly GE and boot leather though. I look for places with specific similarities to other honey holes and check them...
I've tested them from 1-3 miles in the mountains and off my deck from about 6-7 miles to the foothills. Also looked at the moon with both. I'm not an ounce counter myself but if you put ounces>$ then maybe consider the 65 swaro. The Kowa slightly outperformed it in low light at all distances...
I just bought the Kowa 77 after putting it right next to buddy's swaro 65. I have perfect vision and the only difference I could see was that the Kowa is brighter in low light and less expensive. Easy decision. Both are top quality
I'm aware. I'd have contested it. Having worked and talked with the C.O.s in the areas I hunt, I do as I've been instructed. I have had them check for EOS many times but never asked to see any antlers as we almost always stash them out of sight so that hunters won't notice.
Meat first. I often go back the following day for the rack. In CO there is nothing fishy about not having the antlers as long as you have EOS naturally attached to a quarter. There is no law requiring you to take the antlers. A C.O. might have questions about why you have the rack but no...
To answer your first question, no I don't worry about success stats. But, if I wasn't getting into elk at least every couple days I'd move. The key for you this season will be being mobile. Pick out more spots than you could possibly check out within your hunting time and just keep moving and...
