    Real elk hunting!

Ahh my bad, I thought you meant you arrived at the trailhead by truck on 10/1. I bet hunting the first week of October would be money though

just skipped through 40 pages and finally got it, that one went right over my head. Some high quality content though I think I will have to finish it up

    Baby carrier setups

I've been wanting to find a carrier to attach to my SG frame and I saw a Deuter kid comfort one but it didn't look like it could be removed from its frame. Did you have to cut it off or anything or is it detachable?

    Marmot Fencing Vehicles in CO?

Saw a few cars at trailheads in the San Juan's a couple years ago and they had wrapped that orange construction safety fencing around their cars. I have only seen it in the San Juan's, but they do have lots of marmots there it seems

    How was Colorado 1st rifle?

I know there isn't supposed to be poison oak or ivy at higher elevations or in Colorado much at all, but opening week of archery this year I was camping near a creek around 9,500' for 4 days and got what looked exactly like poison oak all over my legs somehow. Itchy, puss filled blisters and...

4th Season Elk Colorado Unit 36

Have lots of back up plans and different areas to hunt. Some spots might look great on google earth but remember that there will likely be a couple feet of snow everywhere. Bushwhacking a couple miles in the deep snow with those temps can be pretty brutal

    Elk Round Steak

If you like corned beef, definitely give that a shot. That's pretty much what all my football roasts turn in to. It's easy and really good in my opinion

What Broadhead Did You Use In 2020?

Tooth of the arrow 100gr on a doe muley. First year using them because they fly so well, did not get a drop of blood due to my shot placement though. Hit the front shoulder, completely blew through the knuckle and didn't fully penetrate the hide on the exit. Luckily I saw the direction she ran...

    Co 1st rifle

They were in some weird spots this year, the lowest I put eyes on elk was 11,300 and most sign was up closer to 11,800. Bumped a couple yesterday at first light walking in some crunchy snow but could never catch up to them

    finding dead elk in Colorado

I found a 5x5 consolation prize this year that looks like it was shot last September. Even found half the arrow with what looks like stomach matter stuck in the broadhead.

How high would you look for elk in late October with no snow?

I would look as high as your area offers, I picked up a trailcam a couple years ago in late october when there was a foot of snow on the ground and found elk at 10,500.

Colorado Unit 7 - Rawahs on Fire

Inciweb predicts it to be contained by the 21st..I wonder how accurate that will be . I can only imagine firefighter resources are pretty low in the state right now with the 3 major fires

My 2020 September Elk Hunting Gear List *updated after recomendations

Since you mentioned it will be the last week of September, you may actually want to bring those long johns. There have been nights almost every year where I end up sleeping in most of my clothes in my 0 degree bag and am still pretty damn cold. Even with no snow, if it's 20 and windy at night it...

My 2020 September Elk Hunting Gear List *updated after recomendations

Like others have said, only bring one pair of pants and I would also scrap the merino base layer bottoms unless you are hunting the last week in September or so. For your cookware you really only need one pot and a spoon (preferably a long handled one).

Zamberlan 980 Outfitter vs 981 Wasatch

Does anyone have experience with both of these boots by chance? I have been using the 980's for the past 3 years and they have been fantastic, but now they have what looks like an updated version with a different outsole and full rubber rand. Has anyone tried the new 981's or checked them out? I...
