223 barrel length & speed

I picked up the 20", but the twist is 1:12. I'll likely do a re barrel to 1:7 or 1:8. Pretty frustrating to have to pay that much for a Tikka 223 lefty. Worst part: I'm right handed but cross eye dominant. I've tried shooting right hand rifles, but the lefties are just more comfortable.

Would the 77gr SMK be a better substitute to the 73g ELD-M as a practice bullet? Ignoring terminal ballistics, how closely does the 77gr SMK resemble the 77gr TMK? While I'm at it, I'm completely new to the world of firearms and hunting, and your info on this forum has saved by hundreds, if...
