A 1000w heater really won't do much. Then there's the fact that a fairly large power station would only give an hour of heat, then take 4-5 hrs to recharge with a generator. Most portable solar panels are only 100w or so in direct sunlight.
The diesel heaters are great. You can pick up a cheaper power station and run a single heater for 3 days. You can put the whole unit outside and even run your air intake (not for the combustion chamber) into the tent. The best all-in-one that I have found is the Hcalory toolbox style one...
I saw that somewhere else, that these are mainly unused returns that they cannot sell as "new". I haven't seen any other manufacturers doing this. Could even be a Costco specific issue since most sellers won't accept returns with engines.
Firman sells "refurbs" for a significant discount. The 4000w dual fuel is about $300-$330 currently. This is my second refurb from them and I can't tell that it's ever been used.
Your first issue will definitely be the UCA to sidewall clearance. This will depend on current tire width/size. Brake lines are really only an issue with something flinging around. You want to secure the extra length of chain on both sides.
You can help with UCA clearance with a narrower...
I have 2 liftmaster solar units. No issues at all so far and they are pretty heavy gates. No issues with the solar panels opening multiple times a day. Those parts are cheap, you can always upsize the 12v battery and solar panel later.
They are all quiet. Either way, direct the exhaust away and then use something hard (like a piece of plywood) to reflect the rest of the noise away from camp. The 5000w+ units will stay in "eco" mode longer while the smaller units will probably jump the rpm to max.
The only way I would get 2 used ones, would be for a VERY good deal. Otherwise there's so many other options, all of which are great. You can get a 5500w champion with remote start for under $1k.
Massey ferguson 4707 is a great value in the 75-100hp range. Tuning can get the 75 up to 100 if you absolutely need it.
There are leftover 23 models with the heavy duty loader in Arkansas for $63k with free delivery.
portable power station is the way to go. A bluetti 256wh will run about $130 and run that for 2 nights easy. A juptiek 1200wh runs about $250 and would power that for nearly a week most likely.
Check your power supply cord. You can save some inversion loss by running it directly off 12v if...
I use NCM. Haven't had a rate increase in the last 15 years. Only paying $250 per year or so with a 3k mileage limit that rolls over. They were the only ones willing to cover while I was under 24 years old.
There are a couple Facebook groups to help with any issues. 99% of the time it’s undersized wires causing voltage drops. It needs some oomph on startup.
The heat tube does get toasty. With a cotton tent I’m not too worried. A synthetic would be a different story. Either way, I bury mine so...
Of of the 4 I have, the hcalory toolbox all in one has the best setup. You can use the internal tank or pull from a 5 gallon Jerry can pretty easily. It goes on sale for $120-40 and comes with a 12v to 110v inverter plug. You can run directly off a power station.
You will have to use some...
Our tent is quite a bit larger. Running one on medium-high kept inside temps 20-30* higher inside. I think we were in the low teens outside the tent.
Helps to pull warmer air from inside the tent also
