    Cooler Size for Elk

I'm in Cranberry (the one closer to Pittsburgh, not the one closer to Clarion), so ~20 miles north of Pittsburgh. I'm hoping for a repeat this year myself. I'll likely be in Montana for a time in late archery season and planning to head back in rifle season if archery doesn't pan out.

Are 8’s enough for out West?

I own a pair of Swaro 8x32 EL and haven't felt under powered in Montana. They work much better than 10s here in PA. I spent time at Cabelas with a number of different options, staring as far across the store as possible, looking at the bolt heads in the dark corners. The ELs were the only ones...

    Ridge wallet/Trayvax/something else?

I've been running a Trayvax Element for about 16 months now. Great simple design that holds everything I need.

Weighted Pack for Working Out Question

I've got a Brute Force Sandbag setup. It comes with 2 tubes that you put playground sand in, one large and one small. Both of those can be placed in the main outer bag which has various handles for exercises. You can customize the weight fairly well. When I put it in my Reckoning, it stays put...

    Bow Presses

I think you might need the adapters if you wanted to take the limb off an RX-1, but all build and maintenance tasks can be done without the adapters.

    TAC - Lost Arrows

I lost one after it went just over the top of a skunk and over a hill... 1 went into a tree and the insert and tip came out (along with about 25 other tips permanently embedded into the tree)... and 1 broke into at least 3 pieces when it ricocheted off a couple of trees as I tried to thread it...

    Kifaru Urban Ruck

I'm running mine with the Organizer slider. So far, I really like it. I've got the main body cinched down. The only downside to doing that is that it won't stand up by itself like my other computer-oriented packs. The pockets on the sides could be a little tighter to hold the Nalgene bottles a...

    Swarovski Turret Questions

An alternative is to just get a turret that is straight MOA or MIL, not specific to a load at a specific altitude. Then use a ballistic solver for your drops based on your current atmospherics location. -David

    Alpha binocular conundrum

Both are top notch. The only way to know for certain which you would prefer is to look at them in a store. If I were to go sight unseen, I would stick with the Swaros, but that's me. The best time to compare is at dusk, outside. If that isn't an option, look as far as in the distance into a...

How do you lefty's shop for bows?

I ordered my Hoyt RX-1 blindly relying on draw cycle reviews. The top end bows are all very good on things like vibration and noise. I will pick up a righty for grip feel, but drawing it back right handed won't give me a true feel of the draw cycle since it just feels too awkward for me. A lot...

    Cooper Backcountry or other suggestions

The benefit to the custom rifle is that you can get it done up exactly like you want, limited only by your budget. There are a lot of very good options in the $1,800-2,500 range that will shoot just as good as a custom, and likely with a better warranty that includes an MOA guarantee. I would...

What kind of release do you hunt with?

I've been playing with a Nock-On 2Smooth hinge release and I love it, but I'm not consistent enough with it yet to make the switch for hunting. I really, really like the 2 moons for adjusting the click and sear separately. I have the click set to happen right about when I'm in position--as soon...

    What New Gear?

Switched from a Mathews Z7 to a Hoyt RX-1. The cam profile is so much nicer on the RX-1. I also switched to 4mm FMJ Injexion arrows, which have been flying amazingly well so far thanks to archersadvantageonline.com. -David

    Western PA

Mostly just trying to get into shape. My sedentary job can make it hard and I'm not a huge fan of going to the gym. I love spending time in the woods and I've met some really great people with hiking. I do go to Montana each year for elk hunting, but it hasn't required a lot of physical fitness...

    Western PA

I'm planning to hike on Saturday afternoon. Planning to do part of the Slipper Rock Gorge Trail at McConnell's Mills State Park. I park at the Hell's Hollow parking lot and am currently planning on 2pm, in case anyone is interested in joining my daughter and I. The Crowfoot tournament went...

    UTV windshields

I have a full, folding windshield on my UTV. I've been in some muddy situations and ended up with too much to clean off. Having the option of folding it down and still being able to see was very helpful. -David
