    Elk are lazy

What? Really? I think the picture are a bit misleading. That is rock! I know the last time I checked, hooves are not harder than granite and those marks are a single drag not repetitious impact . Look on the left, the "ELK" decided to scrape its hooves over the top of the rock instead of...

    Mule Deer vs Elk

High country bucks, you bet I hunt them. Always put in for a tag in my elk unit. But if I really want a deer, I'll drive out on the family property, glass, put one to bed, stalk, kill, drive up and load, and off to the processor. I could never do this with an elk. Granted the bucks are not...

Be Safe when Eating Bear Meat!!!!!!!!

GOOD INFORMATION!!!! COOK ALL WILD GAME THOROUGHLY!! Make sure that camp stoves, if eating fresh kill, get the meat up to appropriate temperatures. I know this can be a problem. The only rare meat I eat is my home raised beef.

Mechanical or Fixed... what are your thoughts for elk?

Fixed only for me. Strikers for last 5 years, but I'll shoot just about any head. Montecs, Muzzies, Slick Tricks, Silver Flames...they all have worked for me.

    Blinds!

Dang your goats are stupid and that's great. If we drive a vehicle close to our tanks, they go to a different one for a day or two. I usually have two blinds put up out a week ahead of time, but I always do the crawl and stalk at least once. Once, because if I don't see a rattler, I know I...

    Scouting

August I really put the time in; start glassing individuals and deciding who's coming home for dinner! (Think positive, right :))

Who has an elk antler addiction?

Looks a lot like the Black Forrest area. I'm hoping on a good haul this year.

Can you make the sheep stop creeping me out?

Now you've got me intrigued to see "what's there to check out".

How many days do you plan to elk hunt in 2012

I voted 5-10 days, but this is the block time. I can hunt on my regular days off as well, but I typically tag out during my block time. One nice thing living in elk country is knowing exactly when the bulls are getting fired up and then changing my schedule to match(usually).

Who has an elk antler addiction?

Looks like you got some good bone! Idaho? I've never taken pictures of my finds. This year I might be able to find a load. Mild weather and the Elk haven't migrated to the center of the private low-land. Hope it stays mild and I'll have some to show.

What are your elk plans for 2012?

IMHO, elk hunting is a mission. If its a back packing trip then it is just that. An elk hunt is an elk hunt. If you are serious about taking an elk, you need to get the mind in the game, not just ho hum oh well. I am also an elk hunting fanatic! I stop to admire the scenery as I'm taking...

    Broadheads help a guy out...

IMHO, most fixed heads will work. Just find the one that flies the best with your setup. SlickTrick makes some good products. Again, how do they fly with your setup? Bleeders? My last four elk have fallen to G5 Strikers; I guess they have bleeders as well ;)

What are your elk plans for 2012?

OTC Colorado and make up for my missed shot last year! Good luck Ozz. Don't fall into the 87% failure rate! Get out here and scout prior to season.

    Colorado Winter Report

I think the mild winter in NW Colorado would be a welcomed relief. The herds up there have had a few bad winters and the predator numbers are still out of control.

    1st Post: What arrows?

CX Max. Hunter 350's. Changed back from Aramids. Didn't see any better durability for the extra cash, but I did like the weight difference. I was going to go to FMJ's but I don't like the fact they can be bent.
