    Choosing a backpack help...

I would recommend going bigger vs smaller. The weight penalty if small (often no penalty at all), and a bigger pack that can compress down just provides that much more flexibility. I have the Kifaru Fulcrum. It is a 7800 sq in pack, if I recall, but it actually weights less, or the same as...

    Anchorage Taxidermy

The Wildlife Gallery has a intake/processing facility in Anchorage. I believe they will, with advance arrangements, pick up hides and horns at certain locations, send them to their tannery, then to whatever taxidermist you choose anywhere in the country. I used them (my outfitter had the pick...

    Kodiak Goat Outlook

I hunted Kodiak last year in Ugak Bay. Be prepared for rain! I was rained on everyday, except when it was sleet!

Best way to carry rifle on my pack

I like my gun bearer. Takes a minute to get used to having the barrel entering your vision, but I appreciate the rifle riding low so as to not get hung up on branches, and handy so it doesn’t get knocked around when I take off the pack. It is only $25 so you might as well give it a try.

How do you travel on airlines with your large backpack?

I load Kifaru Fulcrum, then put that inside a Kuiu Taku 9000, along with my camp clothes, right at 50#. I use a Kuiu Taku 3000 for a carry on with optics. That works pretty well. The backpack straps on the Taku are removable so it becomes a big rubber/canvas waterproof duffle. Its held up...

Just curious if anyone had tried the Kuiu Ultra Star 1 person tent? I haven't but it seems like it could be the answer?

    Grip and Grin Goats?

Here is my Kodiak Goat from last week! We saw rain, more rain, snow, sleet and hail. It was clear skies only on the day we left, though!

Anyone with Zeiss Dialyt Scope thoughts?

I am intrigued by the Zeiss Dialyt - it is a unusually configured scope, that I can't help but find interesting. I like the price, and simplicity, and Zeiss, like Swarovski has not let me down. But, reviews of the scope are thin, and usually several years old. It appears to be non-ED glass...

Boot advice for October Mountain Goat

Great advice. Thanks Guys, I really appreciate it! I will check out the Danner - I have used their lightweight hiker in Africa with good success. Are the Tibets insulated? I will definitely get the crampons and pole/axe.

Boot advice for October Mountain Goat

Hello, I am planning a Kodiak Island October Mountain Goat hunt for next year and would like some advice on boots. I haven't done a lot of mountain hunting, and none where cold weather was an issue. It seems that I am going to want a boot with some insulation. Am I right about that? Most of...
