Wyoming last choice deer tag. Area 92 Whitetail only

This area is a big one east of Lander and north of Atlantic City. I added this unit because I have friends that live south of there in Superior. My guess is to find public land near private and along the middle Popo Agie around the Sinks Canyon state park.

    88 Grain ELDM jug Test

This time the bullet fragmented too much to even gather a chunk. Small pieces of lead and strips of jacket material were all that remained. Set up as usual gallon milk jugs filled with water set up in front of my 100 yard target frame 1 inch apart. Bullet destroyed the first two jugs with...

75 grain Fusion/God Dot jug test

This time used my 9 twist 22" barreled 223 and a load of Lvr. This is a max load in my bolt gun. 26.1 grains of Lve under the 75 grain Fusion, it gives 2925 fps. I set the gallon milk jugs full of water 1 inch apart up in a line in front of my target frame. The bullet blasted the first two jugs...

Jug test 75 gr. .224 Gold Dot 2640 fps at 100 yards

Five gallon milk jugs lined up at 100 yards 1/2 inch apart. Destroyed first jug, split second , put expanded bullet diameter through third jug and ended up in 4th jug. Pretty good penetration. expanded diameter .535 to .560. Weight 66.2 grains. Very little lead dust found in first jug.

    88's in 22 ARC 16" barrel

Well my initial hope was to match 223 velocities from 20 inch AR's with a 16 " 22 ARC. I chose a Faxon 16" with rifle length gas which is accurate and reliable. The problem being my chrony is a Magnetospeed sporter and between the gas block and the brake, and the brake removed it just isn't...

    Old Fud shoots 30-06

Decided to drag my old 30-06 and sight it in. Hadn't been shot since 2014 where it took a nice 6x7 Elk in Wyoming. First shots were a little loose , the stock screws weren't as tight as needed. Maybe the stock shrunk a bit in the last 11 years. Here is the old killer. For some reason it was...

Fragmenting bullets versus controlled expanding bullets

So it seems "fragmenting" is a good thing and little is said about controlled expansion in hunting bullets here. I can see a fragmenting bullet having an edge when the bullet is of small diameter and 2x expansion would only mean .44 and you only have less than 80 grains of bullet to start with...

    22 ARC versus 223

I am thinking the 22 ARC would be a good choice if I wanted to shoot the TMK and heavier -X and -M bullets. It seems you need a longer magazine or a faster twist than many 223 rifles have and Factory ammo using good bullets is very available. I thought about getting a 1-7 twist barrel for my...

    What happened to Mono bullets

Now that we have gotten so deep into various match bullets for game with emphasis on smaller diameters has interest in Mono metal bullets gone away? At one time they were supposed to be the answer.
