Equipment versus practice posts and Rifle practice/shooting

Its been a while since I did this with something other than the .223. Bare muzzle 6.5cm. Counted the fringe hit for 14/20. Got lucky on the sitting unsupported, need to work on that one and offhand. Whenever you start feeling good about your shooting, this drill is always a nice kick in the nuts.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

10-12" or so. Found more bullet jacket pieces in the offside shoulder while processing. If you like what Bergers do, you'll like the DRT. Its unlike any other lead-free option I've used/seen.

    2024 NRL Hunter schedule

The Arbuckle match will have some targets that are difficult to find, but will be a great course. My good buddy is the MD. I'll be there to shoot it and RO.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

79g DRT hpbt tungsten core (lead free). 160ish pound sow, 2380 fps impact. High shoulder hit resulted in a bang flop. To me it looks like the bullet upset almost immediately and achieved good max wound width (maybe 3" or so?) No exit. Entry: Underneath onside shoulder: Cavity entrance...

    The 22 creedmoor thread

Here's a good option for the lead-free folks: 79g DRT at 3200 fps.

Ford 5.0L V8 vs EcoBoost: High mileage experience?

2016 F150 2.7L/6sp with 140k, not a single issue. Still just as strong as new. It's been the most reliable vehicle I've owned. With the large gas tank it goes 700 miles per tank.

    The Shoot2hunt Podcast

Minimalist footwear can be highly efficient in rough terrain. A sole/shoe with good off-trail tread that flexes will provide more surface area to the terrain, resulting in more friction/grip, and is supported by robust connective tissue that is flexible to move with those angles (ie having...

    Images: Hunting with KRG Bravo

Understood. It didn't play properly with the Bravo for Tikka. Its too short for the magwell and is a pain to extract.

    Images: Hunting with KRG Bravo

It doesn't fit the Bravo. The MDT poly 5 round is perfect. It sits snug and doesn't rattle like the metal mags.

My gear/pack layout from base layers to binos

FWIW (as another option/idea) the K3 bag fits perfectly to a current Kifaru duplex lite frame. With Kifaru announcing their new carbon frame, a steady stream of barely used (or new, pre-owned) Kifaru duplex lite frames will hit the marketplace and you can snag one cheap. Sew loops for fitting...

Who here hunts with AICS mags in a bolt action

I had a mag drop out of my KRG Bravo bushwhacking through the thick stuff in Alaska. After that hunt I removed the "wing" from the mag release and have had no issues since.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

6.5CM, 140g ELD-M. Elk, 2291fps impact. Elk traveled 30 yards and went down. Onside shoulder: Impacting "heavy bone" stopped nothing. Shoulder removed, revealing a large entrance hole. 2" section of onside rib was missing. I found bullet and bone fragments in the opposite shoulder...

Help choosing ideal chambering/rifle to shoot lead free projectiles.

CA has a lead-free requirement, not a monolithic requirement. Big difference. In your situation, go with the .243 or 6.5cm. Shoot the DRT ammo in CA, and a good lead core bullet out of state.

    DRT Terminal Shock Load Data

That's probably due to the 3k+ fps impact speeds. At lower impact speed I'd expect a longer neck like a Berger.

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

I reapplied the KG bootguard, this time sanding/prepping the surface well and making sure it wasn't too thin. A few hikes, several days clearing brush on the property, and then five days hunting in one of the wettest places in the lower 48 - continuous rain and soaked vegetation the entire time...
