The quest for the right mid weight pants

And 83$ right now from sitka.... I honestly always skipped the mountain pants because I love the Dakota for cold weather, I really love the ascent for hot weather and honestly the traverse are like the 308. Nobody sings their praise but everybody either has one or should have one just because...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

After 2 more nights of coyote hunting I can attest the jacket is windproof and the dwr works well for a surprise sleet/snow that I wasn't expecting. I like the bibs more than the jacket, but the high collar of the jacket is fantastic for hiding your face when the wind is blowing hard. For rifle...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

I'd agree with that. Sitka also has more technical design features, but some of them are a bit overkill for specific applications in my opinion

    Upland Pants

That's fair, and I believe cathart quality is just not good anymore

    Upland Pants

I'd agree with this, except for the wranglers work pants I've tried. Haven't got a fray or a hole yet and they just flat out impress me every time. I should really buy more just to have before they quit making them. I do run gaiters on the Bottom for wet days and that helps. Nylon pants that...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

Yeah I totally get that. I might see if I can add a button or a magnet to the collar to keep it down when I'm shooting. First lite sizing is really different by piece to me. Sitka just fits me consistently across the board but I'm kind of all over in FL

    SG Xcurve- great CS experience

Lots of praise for their CS, I think that speaks volumes about their company as a whole

Let’s talk temp ranges for layers…

I'm a freeze baby, but I roast when active. So basically I have 2 "sets" of clothing Active hunts, I wear very little. Base layer appropriate for the temp and moisture management goals, (merino in the heat, synthetic in the cold) and a light to mid weight mid layer +/- baselayer bottoms and a...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

I have 2 more sits in this set of bibs and jacket. I'm impressed with the warmth, and the quietness under cold conditions. Not as quiet as the fanatic bibs but not loud at all. I think it might be warmer than fanatic bibs by quite a bit, but it's not nearly as good to move in

The quest for the right mid weight pants

I will also say that the mountain pant fits me the best, the beyond a close 2nd and the skre is the most generic fit. That said, all of them would be fantastic choices. I think I've decided to keep the SKRE venture regardless of how the hardscrabble pants are because they're a pretty solid...

The quest for the right mid weight pants

OK boys, I tried a couple more Skre venture Sitka mountain Beyond a5 rig light And I revisited the duluth trading pants. The sitka mountain is a pretty fantastic option. 83$ right now on Sitkas website in OC. Love the ability to use knee pads for saddle hunting for deer and crawling for...

Is the Sitka Ambient a must have?

The Scooba hood thing isn't always the best for me I have a bison head so it's tough, because I get that I'm not normal. But at the same time I'd like to be able to wear a hood sometimes over a hat lol

Is the Sitka Ambient a must have?

Yep! I'm with you. I am a freeze baby so multiple hunts last year when it was around 0 I had heavyweight, ambient, puffy vest or jacket on under a shell. Just keep insulating til the diesel in my veins don't freeze right!? Hahaha How do you like the 330? And how's the Weight compared to the...

First Lite sanctuary 2.0, first impressions

OK boys, I'm a freeze baby these days so I took a chance on the first lite sanctuary 2.0 bibs and jacket. I had fanatic bibs last year and really liked them, but gave them to my brother and went to purchase a tall pair in size xl but couldn't find any on sale. I started looking around at other...

Is the Sitka Ambient a must have?

I have wore it next to skin as a heavyweight base, but when it's really cold I'll wear my pnuma heated vest under it. I will also wear a thin merino or synthetic base tshirt in case I get done hunting and need to run into town for snacks for the wifey

Sitka kelvin lite down 3/4, uncompaghre pants and a cheap pair of snow pants

That's what made me look at the snowpants in the first place. I was perusing the ecws level 7s and I realized that these snow pants were really not that different at all!

Is the Sitka Ambient a must have?

Yep exactly! I'm fortunate to have snagged an ambient jacket for very cheap at a local shop at the end of the season and that's even better for cold cold. The ambient hoody over the heavyweight (or whatever grid fleece you normally use) is a really good way to go to extend your ability to use...

    Grid fleece comparison

I like it too, but the tight forearms made me size up, which ended up being a great option. It's a tighter knit, so it's done really well in wind and cold. It might end up being my primary for deer season this next fall because I love the kangaroo pocket and the hood is solid

    How'd you like it?

Sitka kelvin lite down 3/4, uncompaghre pants and a cheap pair of snow pants

Solid system I'd think for taking the stratus beyond the cool weather part of the year!
