I voted A for no scallop, but like others I like the flat/straight bottom of forend all the way to the magwell. I don’t know why hunting stock friends are typically rounded and sometime even have a slight belly. Flat let’s you bolt on an arca rail if you want, and also sits flatter/rides a bag...
To add, not only are book charge weights specific to the rifle, they are specific the brass, primer, and especially the bullet. Different bullets brands/construction will have different max charge weights, some are harder/softer when engaging the rifling and this all affects the pressure curve...
Charge weights in Loading books are really just a guideline and specific to the rifle that was used in testing. Very unlikely they will match your rifle. Chrono you loads and look at velocity to get an idea of pressure, it will coordinate much better than charge weights. Max velocity in the book...
Powder charge weight is a big factor in recoil. A downloaded 7rm matching 7-08 velocity will be more recoil than a 7-08. I’d have them shooting a 223 or 6arc, if you have to go bigger to meet legal minimums for hunting I’d be loading Reduced recoil loads for 243
My 13yo daughter switched to a...
I’ve been packing a str8laced bag for years but it’s a little spongy/soft. I’ll be packing a pint size git lite gamechanger this year, which will double as a pillow. it’s pretty good as a rear rear and real handy for shooting stumps, rocks etc.
My scopes are never set at zero unless I’m checking zero. Zero at 100, dial is always set to 0.5mil as default, or ~200yd. Then dial additional if need to shoot past 250yd.
If it’s a plastic T3x stock it has a threaded holes, one at the swivel stud (remove stud and replace with machine screw) and farther toward the action. You can also drill and epoxy t-nuts if you want more fasteners, that’s what I did when I had a short arca rail. I prefer the full length that’s...
At your height 60” minimum would work for standing with binos.
For shooting you can proportion the height to get close on flat ground but you are going to want extra length for sloped ground.
1.5” pic rings if you can get the scope position right. Photo below is a SWFA 3-9 with 1.5” NF rings. I’d rather cantilever a bit of the front of the scope off the rings then use a cantilever mount with a short base gripping the pic rail.
I’ve also got one with a wyolok rail bridging the...
Thought I would share as I’ve never been more pleased with a rifle. 6creed - This thing is freaking awesome.
Only con is it came in a few oz heavy at 5# 14oz. After shooting it, I don’t care about that and I have zero complaints. I thought my tikka T3x was the easy button but this thing has it...
depends on how you define “slow”. I get less than book velocities with book powder charges in my T3x 6.5cm. So I add powder and watch velocity. Not slow anymore.
Velocity = pressure.
Doesn’t have to be fancy. 1/2” plywood works fine. Fasten to an arca plate if you are running a ball head, alternatively drill and hammer a 3/8” tee nut and you can screw down direct to the tripod with no head.
My kid was training on the tripod last year clipped in with an anvil 30. Now she’s...
Still working thru the 20# of surplus ball powder I got cheap for blaster ammo in 223/5.56. other than that for the last two years I’ve only been loading for 223/6arc/6cm/6.5 cm and only with 8208XBR or RL16. They both flow through a powder measure with acceptable accuracy and I’ve been really...
For those that have been to a bunch of these or shot with kids, do kids need to pack their own tripod, bags, glass etc or can you share with your kid? I’m not clear on what the adult is allowed to help with
Put some scotch tape on the case head and see how many layers of tape until you feel resistance on bolt close. Will give you approx idea much headspace you have
