    Dyeing a Pack

Hope you have better luck than I, nylon and synthetics don't take dye easily. Test first.

    Keto in the backcountry

This is a decent read about Keto and backpacking. Several links to food ideas. My sheep partner shared it with me. Keto backpacking food basics for ultralight backpacking and thru-hiking.

    Getting Elk on a Plane...

When I hunt Kodiak and remote villages or transport meat and hides home. I use cheap plastic totes, the largest size the airline will ship. I drill holes around the top and secure with reusable zip ties. I place my gear in the totes on the way to the hunt area and pack an extra duffle bag for...

    Lightweight Hooded shirt?

I really like a wind shirt, my favorite is the Patagonia Houdini 3.6 oz, great wind breaker and can take light rain. I sweat like a horse when moving and always soak my shirt, then get cold when I stop. I now just wear my Houdini and even if I get sweaty the wind shirt does not get soaked. When...

    Cooking burger rare

I use Sous Vide, this lets me control the temp. I can hold the meat at whatever temp I like for long enough to kill and pasteurize. I like rare to med rare, so 130 degrees for an hour, then I sear off in cast iron. Sous Vide is an incredible way to make any lean cut fork tender, while still...

Blisters and Boots, bad fit or deal with it?

No Sir, they stick like glue, even more so when you get a bit of L-tape residue.

    First timer diy caribou

The 40 mile hunt and the slope are very different hunts, I have done both. PM me you like and I will give you my number and we can chat. Lots of details on the 40 mile hunt. They use Super Cubs, to get folks into the Caribou and 206s and such to haul hunters and gear to a staging area. Both are...

Blisters and Boots, bad fit or deal with it?

30 miles IMHO is not enough for a good break in, I like 100 or so before I hunt in a pair. As already stated, pretape the spots that have blisters BEFORE your next hike. Check out youtube for some heal locking lacing methods. If you are using the insoles that came with the boots, toss them and...

Swaro' vs. Zeiss vs. Vortex spotting scope review, by Robby Denning

Good stuff, I used a Zeiss Dialyt for a sheep season. Good glass, I just could not get used to the eye relief, and I'm just not a straight guy. :) Sure was nice to pack compared to her replacement ATX 95mm.

Factory Ammo suggestions for Christensen Arms Mesa 300 Win Mag

I was in a group shoot last week and one guy had a new Mesa,, was a shooter for sure. He was ringing steel out to 750 with it at midnight. :) Was chambered in 6.5 CM so no ammo advice. I believe he was slinging 147s ELD match. Was impressed enough that I was at the store today playing with a ELR...

    Packraft Paddles & Loading

One other thing I have discovered,, that is a carbon fiber or fiberglass shaft is WAY warmer and transfers less cold to the hands for good weather paddling.

    Packraft Paddles & Loading

The wife and I have an Explorer and Yak,, the Yak is only good for one and a pack. Tried putting a boned out sheep with gear and myself and it was doable, but really not enough floatation. The Explorer was IMHO just enough for that task. I like the 210s 4 piece for backpacking,, lets you get the...

    Bone-in or Boneless?

Also, boned out meat is like trying to pack JELLO, it just keeps oozing out between the straps. Quarters are much easier to keep secure in a pack and also easier to keep cool.

    Alaska DLP Question

I agree with the above except,,,, I believe the issue would arise if you wanted to KEEP the DLP bear. If you wanted to keep it then I do believe you would have to use the moose non res locking tag and tag it as a "downgrade" and you would be done hunting because you no longer have a moose...
