Tips for getting a steady shot in the backcountry.

I have some little contraption that allows my trekking poles to lock together and form shooting sticks. Wiser Precision makes it. Pretty slick. Seated position, rifle on the sticks, pack under my chest and right elbow like a rear rest. Very solid.

    Satellite communicators worth the cost?

I bought a zoleo for a backpack hunt above the arctic circle. Paid something like 200 or 250 for it, and think I had to buy a 3 month plan. Worked great. My wife was able to track me. Sent her check in messages daily. Peace of mind for her after me being stuck in a blizzard on Kodiak for 11 days...

    2025 Nonresident Hunt Option

I too did the crow res this year. Probably with the same guide. Great time. Very inexpensive. Killed a huge goat. Prices are going up next year though... That being said ID and NM should be on your list. AZ is a great place to build points as well. Can get into some great hunting with some luck...

Closed Door Hunts around the World.

As mentioned, it's definitely USDFW causing the vast majority of the issues. The run around I got getting a free range red stag and blackbuck antelope home from Argentina was ridiculous. Especially when I can bring a stag home on the plane from NZ. Couldn't get a kangaroo home from Australia...

Do you tip your game processor?

I don't tip him per se, but I go out of my way to send him referrals. Ultimately, it probably leads to 20+ deer a year from guys that had been using other processors, on top of the 6-10 I bring him. No better tip than that in my opinion. There are times when I don't have exact change, it's 10...

    Christmas Buying?

I agree, gifts are for the kids. My wife and I rarely exchange gifts, unless I surprise her with something. Same situation, if we want it, we just buy it. How about an experience? Have her set up a trip somewhere you've been wanting to go. My wife doesn't know it yet, but we bought me an ibex...
