We used a .243 this year. My 8yo daughter who is small for her age shot two does @ 172y and 145y. First was perfect (she had zero recoil expectations). You can see it kick her and get her take on the recoil in the video. second shot on another die was pulled a little but still dropped it, and I...
And if you can’t find a good mentor, pay for a guided hunt. It will save you a lot of time and frustration. That’s not really celebrated on this board, but if you’ve never hunted, I think it’s the best way to get into it. And practice a lot with whatever gun/bow you decide to start with.
Did you talk to him?
Sorry you had that experience. It’s such a gamble booking a hunt. I put a lot of faith in GOABC members. For others reading this thread, if the outfitter is in BC and not a member, he probably needs to be avoided. If anyone attends one of the big hunting expo shows, GOABC...
If you scroll down in this section of the forum, you’ll see a thread about spring bear hunting in Idaho. It will answer most of your questions and give you enough info to get started. The thread has about 1,000 replies.
We started filming hunts this year because my son wanted to start a YouTube channel and it makes the hunt more fun. It’s also pretty cool to have more than just the photo.
We’ve got pretty cool footage of our other hunts this year, too. It takes us a while to actually edit the videos.
I’ve used the MagView for a year now. It’s functional but I’m going to get an Olin setup soon. My biggest complaint is the light that comes around the eyepiece. Makes getting good shots difficult in many light conditions. I’m fairly good at aligning the camera and scope but I am looking forward...
I’ve flown with salted hides twice. Rolled them up and put them in my exo pack, carried it on the plane. No problems. Flying with frozen hides is fine, until you or your luggage get delayed. Your guide should salt it for you.
Just for perspective, the Dow jones industrial average hit an all time high of 3700 in 1993. Today it is about 45,000.
Hunt prices seem to be holding steady relative to the cost of money.
I cook with it for some things. I like the way bacon grease tastes better. I have not tried it for biscuits/pie crusts, which is where I’ve heard it shines best. I have liked using it for conditioning my hunting boots and using some on a baseball glove to help it break in.
My son shot this smaller doe. I think we were about 50 yards away. Perfect shot. She ran about 50-60 yards and fell over. Half the heart was turned into burger, lungs were the same. Some of the lung tissue came out of the large exit hole. .243 Hornady SST. We also have the eld-m and the...
Go on a guided hunt. I know that’s not the cool thing to say on here, but you’ll probably have more fun because you’ll be more successful, and you should learn something.
