What do you guys and gals use for pillows? Inflatable, stuffed, neck or just stuff sacks filled with clothes? I always have the worse neck stiffness when I wake- curious to hear what everyone uses.
I agree that hiking into the back country, living off your back, spot and stalking bull elk that are screaming in your face is quite the rush...
but tracking hogs in the thick palmetos during hot and humid Florida nights, using catch dogs to subdue your prey so it doesnt charge and tear you...
lifting heavy, eating clean and getting plenty of sleep- from my own personal experience, at 6 foot 3 going from 145lbs to 215lbs in 3 years
- lift heavy weights at low reps and as many sets as you can. Then drastically reduce weight and do reps until near muscle failure.
- eat to live and eat...
I have been wearing smartwool and won't go back to UA. The UA's just smell so bad after a days use, washing helps but it seems pointless when you can get a good 3 days out of a pair of merino.
I use a Hilleberg Soulo- it's free standing and bombproof in all conditions. Plus I can take out the inner shell during summer months or add a bug net. I have not been sold on the idea of bivy/tarp/stove- although it looks nice to have fire/warmth in the shelter.
I either use my trusty MC 782 Gear Flash-Lite 1/4 zip or First Lite Chama 1/4 zip- bottom line is I go with natural fibers over syn, I've learned my lesson.
Exped makes sleeping pad covers to help protect the air pad- never tried one but it could work instead of hauling a foam pad on the outside of your pack.
stay motivated at all costs, use inspiration where ever and when ever possible, always remember the mind will quit long before the body ever will- so stay mentally focused and strong
I agree with shanevg, bear meat is mighty tastey and it was a dietery staple for me and my dog. Buy a digital food thermometer and be certain it's cooked to proper doneness. I hate to think hunters leaving bear meat behind out of fear of the Trichina worm.
