With a decoy and rut action I've found to be 35-40 yards about average (with quick ranging or estimation on the shot). They come quick and often are inside 45 yards on a really aggressive buck.
For spot/stalk...ya, you're likely best to be proficient at a bit further distance and then set...
I don't doubt the hunting on the private ranch is likely a really good experience with great trophy potential. What I get sick of seeing is people looking for ways to blend points with complete strangers in an attempt to benefit them. I'd imagine that's what others on this thread don't like...
Great post.
Wife has 11 points and its time to get down there. Hoping for a good winter and then will see where research points us. I couldn't imagine using those points in a party application unless it was with me and blending those points. Surely wouldn't let some random person on the 'net...
This is the type of stuff we are up against trying to promote 'hunting' to the public. Two steps forward sometimes and about 18 steps backwards. We wonder why we are losing ground at a ridiculous pace.
BuzzH may have the most impressive collection of antelope I've seen posted ever. Anytime guys like him, Greenhorn, Eli, etc post about antelope...I take note!!!
Great thread and reference!!!
Man I simply love chasing these critters. Cant wait to get back to Wyoming for another hunt (hoping next year for my wife to burn some points that we've been waiting on for FAR TOO LONG)
None of these are official scores, just me in the basement with a tape...
Great shape, likely better than a 9.5/10
Has stored gear on a shelf in my house most of its life. No travel etc.
I'd like $140 shipped, PayPal works best.
I have used a decoy when the rut isn't on and it has 'average' effectiveness. Bucks will check you out but bucks that are already herding up wont do as much chasing and will often round up their does and bugger off in my experience. Satellite bucks and does will come and approach more curious...
Hunted it a few years ago. I'll see if I can drum up a story/pics of our hunt. Feel free to PM if you have specific questions.
We had a great hunt. Currently have enough points to draw again with my wife but likely have to wait till next year at least.
Great buck and really nice looking mount! I've got some cape damage on my buck from this year and will likely use an offset wall ped to display his "good" side
I'd personally drive the Northern Idaho/AB route. Puts you into a pretty nice drive through the parks in AB/BC and then straight up the Alaska hwy once you come back in from Alberta. Its the way I'd drive without question.
Never been to one of these but hoping I can make the swing down to Bonners this June! I'm only an hour and a bit north so long as I can make it work around the work schedule it would be a fun time down there!!!
